Here’s What Bags Your Favorite Gilmore Girls Characters Would Carry in 2021

Do you have a television show that makes you feel cozy, safe, and instantly relaxed? I have two. Friends and Gilmore Girls, and this post is dedicated to my favorite characters from Stars Hollow. Gilmore Girls originally aired from 2000 to 2007, which is when I was going through my formatative middle and high school years. If you’re not familiar with the show, it follows mother-daughter duo Lorelai and Rory and their life in small town Connecticut, and I highly recommend binging it immediately. The show features weekly dinners with Lorelai’s parents, Richard and Emily, and chronicles their complicated relationship. Stars Hollow is a close-knit community and the show follows Rory and Lorelai’s friendships with friends and neighbors. Real talk: I still dream about living in a place like Stars Hollow one day…

In addition to becoming deeply invested in the complicated dynamics of the outside relationships in their lives, I fell in love with Rory and Lorelai’s bond. I also fell in love with their style, particularly Lorelai’s. Even as a teenager, I always idolized the way Lorelai dressed on Gilmore Girls. She had a Marc Jacobs bag I was obsessed with, and she always had the cutest accessories. The show had a reboot in 2016, A Year in the Life, which was a four episode revival. It was so fun to see the characters back on the screen, and I can’t believe it’s been nearly five years since it was released.

I was recently binging the show for the hundredth time and I’m officially declaring the bags I believe the characters would wear in 2021. Without further ado, let’s dive in.

Lorelai

Lorelai opts for classic handbags throughout the show, and I think this Ferragamo Studio bag would fit her wardrobe perfectly. I can totally see her grabbing her morning coffee at Luke’s with this beauty on her arm.

Rory

Rory tends to wear black, demure bags. One of the most iconic moments on the show is when she is gifted a bright pink ostrich Hèrmes Birkin bag by her boyfriend’s mother. Not only does she have no idea what a Birkin is, but she dislikes the bright color and style of the handbag (breaking my Birkin dreaming heart every time). Since Rory isn’t into bright colors, I think the Saint Laurent Carre bag would fit into her wardrobe in 2021 perfectly.

Emily

Emily is extremely formal in the way that she dresses (and behaves, most of the time). I really didn’t like her character when I was growing up, but she has become one of my favorites in my older age. I particularly loved her during the 2016 reboot. Emily would definitely still be carrying a classic bag in 2021, so I think a Chanel bag would certainly fit the bill. Rory may not have loved her Birkin bag, but Emily sure did…she appreciates designer and definitely strikes me as a Chanel loyalist.

Paris

Paris is another character from the show that has grown on me over the years. She is Rory’s rival in high school, always competing for better grades. When Paris and and Rory became roommates at Yale, we start to see a softer side of Paris, although she remains competitive and ambitious throughout her tenure on the show. I could totally see her carrying this Tory Burch Lee Radziwill bag, it’s big enough to carry documents in lieu of a brief case. It’s stylish but a classic shape, and I can’t imagine Paris wearing anything too trendy or bold.

Suki

Suki is one of my favorite characters of all time and is portrayed by none other than Melissa McCarthy. Suki is Lorelai’s best friend and the Chef at Lorelai’s Dragonfly Inn. Suki wears tons of prints and bright colors, so I can definitely see her picking a bag that is fun and colorful. This Moschino polka dot bag definitely matches her cheerful personality.

Lane

Lane is Rory’s best friend and is one of the most lovable characters in television history. Lane really grows into her own when she forms a rock band, Hep Alien. Lane is the drummer, and we learn she becomes the mother of twin boys in the reboot. I think Lane would definitely be channeling her inner rock star in 2021, so I would pair her with the Chain Cassette bag from Bottega Veneta, it just permeates cool to me.
