Welp, it finally happened… again. Chanel’s price increase took flight this week. And though it was a little less extreme compared to last year’s (many of the classics were raised around $200 instead of $300), it still hurts – especially if you were debating purchasing your first flap bag.
Lucky for you, if you’re still in the market for a flap, fear not! There are quite a few alternatives out there that won’t completely break the bank. Right now, I’m eyeing the new Balenciaga (available for pre-order). Honestly, I’m pretty surprised it’s priced the way it is. I would have expected it to hit the low $2,000s. Otherwise, the Givenchy, Alexander McQueen, and Hayward are all great options.
Which one would you go for?
Love, LOVE this post. I hate having to think about my bank account ever time I look at new flap bag in the window! (You know the one with the waggling tail!)
Title of this article is misleading. Should say “MINI flap bags under $1500”. Minis are their own category.
I was thinking the same thing! There are so many great flap bags out there, and that are not minis; LC LP Heritage, Amazone and Mademoiselle, Coach Parker, Gucci Small Ophidia, Furla Metropolis and Diva, Coccinelle Ambrine, there are endless amounts of choices. The bags featured in the post are pretty but they have very little use in everyday life, and if this is meant to portray cheaper alternatives to f.e. Chanel flap bags, they should also be in the same size category.
Furla Metropolis is a fabulous bag. I’ll take a look at the others on your list. Thank you!!
The Tory Burch Fleming is gorgeous too. There is a tweed version on her website now for around $575. Fortunately I am not a flap bag person and I bought my Chanels way before the price increases. I would love to see a piece on the latest trends in smaller tote styles.
*yawn*…they all look cheap…except for the Chloe, which looks tacky with that giant gold “C”…I’ll pass, thanks
I like the Balenciaga bag (if only one could remove the obnoxious “B” hardware!). I find the shape of this bag really interesting. The Coach bag is also quite nice for people on a more modest budget.
The Gucci Marmont and YSL flap are jokes.
If only these designers could make a regular sized bag for $1500 and under. Ughh…one can only dream.

I like the Givenchy.
I have it – it’s a fantastic little bag!
Sort of sad, but the Coach bag looks the most original and nice out of all of them. Good for them.
I was thinking the same thing. I was shocked. Only issue is that cheap tell-tale little tag they placed off to side. Remove that and it is a lovely looking bag! Haven’t thought that about coach since high school! Lol
The most functional looking one here is the Coach
I’d also recommend the Aspinal Lottie bags as an affordable alternative flap bag. They come in a few different sizes, leathers, and velvet. PLUS, most have a back slip pocket, which is perfect for your phone.

I love my Karl Lagerfeld and Kurt Geiger Flap bags.
I have the Givenchy and love it – very versatile due to all the ways it can be worn.
