At this point, pretty much all the Spring 2016 bags are in stores, so it’s time to be making some decisions. We’ve absorbed all the information and the cream has risen to the top, as it’s wont to do. After staring at the season’s bag’s every day for months, I’ve come to some conclusions about what I want in my own closet.
Below, check out the five bags I keep coming back to, no matter what pops up in stores or which lookbooks arrive in my email box. In the comments, let us know which bag you’re looking at for spring.
Balenciaga Mini Papier A4 Zip-Around Tote
$1,395 via Balenciaga
In included this bag on my overall Spring 2016 wish list earlier in the year, and my love for it has stood the test of a few months’ time. It’s small but not too small, distinctive but not aggressive, and the color is a perfect springtime option for someone who otherwise wears a lot of black, even when it’s warm. (Yours truly.)
Chloé Small Faye Bag
$1,390 via Neiman Marcus
I put the larger Faye on my wish list too, but I’d like to make an adjustment. The smaller Faye is still big enough for all the stuff I normally carry, especially on a weekend, and the smaller size and longer strap make it feel slightly more casual than its big sister. The perfect small crossbody for when you don’t want to look like you’re going to Coachella.
Gucci Padlock Gucci Signature Shoulder Bag
$1,690 via Gucci
If I’m being completely honest, I’m not sure that this bag is exactly my style, but I just keep coming back to it. The Padlock is my personal favorite style from Gucci right now, and although this bag looks very small, it’s mostly an optical illusion with the large front lock; the interior isn’t huge, but it’s big enough.
Mansur Gavriel Mini Lady Bag
$750 via Kirna Zabete
I’m a longtime Mansur Gavriel fan, but I’m mostly stuck to my beloved bucket bags. Last week, though, I saw someone on the street carrying one of the new Mini Lady Bags and I was totally smitten. It’s the perfect size and Mansur’s bags are always light as a feather–optimal for summer in the city.
Saint Laurent Baby Sac de Jour Tote
$2,790 via farfetch.com
This one pains me a little bit, but the heart wants what it wants. I’ve been a noted Sac de Jour hater since the bag debuted, and although I think the smaller versions are light years better than the big ones, there’s never been a version that made me imagine having one in my closet. Well: here we are. The snake-printed handles are so good, especially on this version, where they contrast with the very pale grey body of the bag. Even a stopped clock is right twice a day. (Am I the clock or is the bag the clock in this metaphor? Something to ponder.)
Hmm, the bag I like the least is the Mansur Gavriel. Good luck, the others are beautiful.
These are all great choices. I don’t like Balenciaga, but I wouldn’t say that’s as aggressively ugly as many other Balenciaga bags. Also, I don’t quite understand the hype around Mansur Gavriel, but at that price point that particular bag is nice enough. At least it’s not a bucket bag.
The Gucci padlock is a real “looker”- go for that one!
The only one I like from those is the SDJ
The MG lady bag is my favourite. Glad to hear it’s lightweight-I am planning to get one for work?
Would love to hear if you succumb to temptation and buy one!
The Gucci padlock bag somewhat reminds me of an LV? Hmmm…like the petite Malle? But it’s nice.
The only bag on here that I like is the SDJ and I don’t think it’s the best of breed. But at least you are coming around to the right side on this bag. I fear you are the clock. But we love you anyway. ????
Ha ha ha re: clock. Amanda FTW, as usual.
I would love to see someone add a Fendi Strap You to Mansur’s Lady Bag! That’s the very first thing I thought when I took notice of it a few months back and it’s exactly what I want to do with it when I get one next time they are restocked!
