Introducing Bottega Veneta’s the Clip Bag

Elevated details make this simplistic silhouette stand out from the crowd

Daniel Lee has continued to push boundaries since his appointment at Bottega Veneta. The designer consistently produces handbag hit after handbag hit for the brand, focusing on avant-garde shapes and the reinvention of classic house codes while exploring new silhouettes. His eye for detail paired with his ability to play with proportions has worked in Lee’s favor season after season. Today, we’re taking a look at Lee’s latest design for Bottega Veneta, which just popped up on BottegaVeneta.com.

For resort 2021, Lee introduces one of his most classic shapes to date, yet despite its clean lines and classic construction, the Clip is sure to be a hit. An exercise in juxtaposition—a basic silhouette paired with unique, elevated detailing, the Clip is the perfect statement-making piece for those who love an envelope design as much as we do.

The shape is fairly compact, featuring a semi-structured square body in box calf leather with a functional shoulder strap that can be both adjusted as well as completely removed so that the bag can be carried as a clutch. The design is defined by its sleek painted edges and intricate metal hardware closure. The bag’s flap is secured by a triangular metal fastening, which also happens to represent a V, for Veneta. Inside the bag is lined in nappa, and there is only one interior zipped pocket, though the front panel also contains a flat pocket for maximum organization. Though this shape appears to be on the smaller side, it’s designed to hold more than what meets the eye thanks to its compact silhouette, which disguises the bag’s significant interior capacity.

In addition to purple, red and green, the Clip is also available in neutral shades of beige, black and espresso brown. Overall dimensions are 8.3″ L x 9.1″ W x 3.5″ D and you can pre-order now via Bottega Veneta for $3,100.

It is, for me, very hard to make a decision on a bag without seeing it and touching/weighing it in real life BUT I’m familiar with some BV buttery leather that this looks to be, and I am just loving that look. Might need to look into getting one in the Fondant color…

It’s beautiful and it’s a great way to reimagine BV’s old “logo”.

The leather looks sumptuous, but the triangle clasp, just looks a bit flimsy and cheapens the bag. Might need to see it in person. Not hating the overall aesthetic, and the bag on the cover photo looks expensive…and probably is. 🙂
