“You need to stop buying more clothes, you need to buy more accessories!” shouted a creator whose reel I scrolled past on Instagram last week. That sentiment played through my mind all day. While I adore bags (duh) and enjoy styling and getting creative with my outfits, accessories are where I am kind of boring.
I wear the same gold hoop earrings and rings most days, and around my neck sits a vintage gold rope chain from the ’40s that belonged to a family member, which I never take off.
Why Accessories Are Taking Center Stage This Fall
As I start outfit planning for fall and creating a wishlist of things that I feel my closet lacks, accessories will be at the forefront. I crave a closet refresh in the fall more often than any other time of year, and while I still love to wear bold, bright colors, I find that as I get deeper into my thirties, my style is seeing a renaissance once again.
This season, Instead of refreshing my closet with a pricey designer bag and a few key items, I’m looking to get statement accessories like a good baseball cap I’ll wear time and time again, a few belts (I only own 2 gold belts; there isn’t a leather one in sight!), and jewelry that can elevate all of my basics.
As New Yorkers know, in New York, the coat makes the outfit, so naturally, I’ve got a couple of jackets on my wishlist alongside closet staples like a new pair of jeans and a novelty white button-up. What are you eyeing as fall creeps closer?
