Much like animal print, denim, and shearling, backpacks are not a trend per se. Rather, they are something that never quite ceases to exist, but will ebb and flow in popularity depending on the year. Last year, I wondered if the almighty backpack was having an almighty comeback after dying down in the early 2020s.
Well, we can wonder no more, because this year they’re most certainly having a moment, and as we inch closer to back to school season, they’re suddenly everywhere. Their grand return to ubiquity (at least in stores and online) is not at all that surprising given their hands-free ease of use. Plus, as trends as a whole have moved away from the mini and micro bags towards bigger, slouchier bags, people have begun to carry more day to day, bringing a backpack’s need back into play.
Looking at the current select, we weren’t surprised to see that nearly evey major designer’s line-up connsists of at least one backpack, which wasn’t the case even a year ago. Louis Vuitton continues to entice us with nostalic options like the iconic Venice backpack in denim while, while Chanel, Miu Miu, Marni, Loro Piana and more have dropped sleek styles of their own.

They never left.
Could not agree more!
I love backpacks. I only wish more of them had a better outside pocket for easy access to my phone. So many of the outside pockets are too small. I hate having to dig for my phone. Designers can you hear my plea?
I got the Dior Caro one (black, all leather) after debating it for a long time and I absolutely love it. Looks great with dresses, lots of capacity and goes great with more elevated workout wardrobe. Because it’s a backpack I’ve also not held back from using it unlike my other bags especially those in lambskin. Love it!
I have never liked backpacks.
In addition to not liking the look, I think it is too easy for someone to access your bag.
Not for me for everyday use. However, I use one ever time I take my students on field trips. I have a very old nylon Kate Spade. I would love to upgrade to a nylon Prada. Unfortunately, I know it doesn’t make good financial sense.
Sometimes, I detest being responsible. LOL!
I got mine through the outlet about 7 years ago for ~$500. Easily one of my best purchases from a cost per wear.
You can get Prada bags at a huge discount second hand. They don’t hold their value at all. You might be able to snatch your new backpack for cheap!
Prada is insane, over 2k for a nylon bag with nothing new from everything they’ve make previously. No thanks
Love the Loro Piana my favorite of the lot. and the color awesome
My black leather Coach backpack is my most used and loved bag, definitely time to buy another one. Love the suede Ralph Lauren and Dior Caro.
Does anyone have any thoughts on Goyard’s Alpin Mini?
Had my eye on it for a while but I haven’t seen it much and it’s usually not the bag people hype about from the brand.
