Back in high school there was a time where it was cool not to carry a bag. Mainly this trend became a thing when girls started getting their licenses and began driving to and from school everyday. Not carrying a bag meant showing off the keys to your brand new—or used!—car.
The cool girls toted Louis Vuitton key pouches around school with their lunch money inside and their keys hanging from the edge. I didn’t drive in high school so while I wasn’t given a pouch as an ‘I just got my license’ gift, I did purchase a bright red LV monogram Vernis key pouch in Paris years later. I understand the practicality of such a small item now more than ever.
I’ve gone grocery shopping twice since the pandemic began and each time I took extreme precautions leaving everything and I mean everything at home or in the car. My handbag and phone were left at home and I even took off my jacket and left it in the car, since I wouldn’t wash it immediately. When I entered the store the only thing I carried was the card case with my credit card inside and my keys attached.
While I don’t use an item like this as much when I’m in the city, for a suburban resident it’s a practical thing to have. I use a key case daily. Protects my bags with leather interior from scratches.
I’d rather use a wristlet because it can hold my phone. The Gucci one is cute. For some reason, the Chanel looks cheap.

I could never leave home with just a tiny pouch – there’s a phone and a 6 ring key holder situation going and I need either good sized pockets or a small bag to carry all I need. I don’t think I’ve ever gone to the corner store or made a lunch run with just a pouch or a card holder.
I remember everyone carrying the Coach Mini Skinny around in middle/high-school (I’m 29 now). I put mine away for years but have been using it as my main wallet for the past 2. It fits all my essential cards on the outside but still has enough space for some extras, cash and coins on the inside. I love being able to grab it to go to the gym/run errands when needed and that it’s small enough to fit into my weekend bags so I’m not constantly changing wallets.
I just got gifted one last year and I’ve been using it when I carry my smaller bags. Why didn’t I get one myself earlier?

I’d rather not use any purse during these times. When i go to the grocery, i carry my license and credit card in my pocket and that’s it. I come back, wipe the cards, wash the jacket and that’s it!
Ya, I’ve been carrying just my license and credit card as well so I can easily wipe it down right when I get back in the car. We’re all changing our ways!
