Your First Look at the Bags from Chanel Cruise 2017 Cuba

Chanel Cruise 2016:17 Cuba 19

Last week, right after the Met Gala, Chanel debuted its Cruise 2016/17 collection in Havana, Cuba. The controversial location was announced months ago and many awaited what Karl Lagerfeld had in store for one of the first big, public events to be held in the country since travel restrictions have loosened. Chanel kicked off the show by taking guests to hot spots around Havana, including Ernest Hemingway’s house and an exhibition of Lagerfeld’s photographs. The Chanel Cruise 2016/17 Cuba Show was set in open air in Havana’s Paseo del Prada, which divides the city between Old and New Havana.

Guests arrived in colorful old convertibles and were treated to a spectacular show, with clothing and accessories that paid homage to Cuban culture and heritage, including classic car-printed skirts and beyond.

Of course, we wanted to share the accessories, but finding detail shots has proven to be quite the ordeal. Thankfully, Chanel added to its site a few photos that give a peek at the accessories, and Spy News Magazine answered our Chanel prayers by adding a few great images of the collection’s bags.

Sandy

I see why all of the articles on the show lead with the pic of the rainbow Boy, pretty great! Most of the other bags are not so great. I cannot imagine paying Chanel prices for the burlap looking backpacks.

Marcia3636

like Kelly explained I am alarmed that a student can get paid $8248 in a few weeks on the computer . more info here https://www.facebook.com/Canada-US-UK-Australia-and-New-Zealand-online-jobs-1603538373295103/app/190322544333196/

Gigi

Sort of underwhelming

Yoshi1296

That rainbow Boy bag is so amazing!!!

Passerine

I liked the bag in photo number 13. Could easily be worn year round.

Kate

The rainbow Boy is spectacular, and I like the clothes, but the rest of the bags are rather underwhelming.

Sparky

Wow! Great collection. I love everything: clothes, bags shoes but I agree with Sandy (comment below). I wouldn’t pay Chanel prices for the bags because they are too novelty. These shoes – yes. These bags – no.

FashionableLena

Love the shoes. The handbags? Not so much.

SPA

In slide 7 – the embellishments on the bag – I wonder if they are pinned on ie. available to buy separately- I think they are so pretty as brooches!

Freya

Love the collection.

Bir

i adore the cigar box clutch the one that actually looks like a timber Wood box.

Lisa

My favorite too; very clever! The “craftier” ones are just silly but the rainbow Boy is great.

Alice

Does it strike anyone as ludicrous that the Chanel show was held in Cuba, a very poor nation that is in many ways stuck in the 50s? The average person there doesn’t have a house or car that’s worth what the Chanel handbags cost.

Jerri R

I was thinking the exact same thing. Very in your face to the poverty stricken people.

Jewish Chick

I’m shocked period it was held in a country with such an awful, communist government. I have NO doubt the “people” didn’t receive a penny, yet the top honchos did.

Elisa

I see your point but I also wonder how much revenue this show brought in for the city and how many people might visit and spend money there because of this show.

Aliza Zibkoff

Doesn’t do you a heck of a lot of good when the government can put a hand anything you have in your possession. I say in your possession because in Cuba you can’t own anything…unless of course you are in “The Party”

Aurore de La Gorce

Indeed, but it’s all for the show…

Greg J Richards

The rainbow boy is lovely but I’m not keen on the rest of the bags and clothes.

Aileen Diaz

i totally agree the only one that can make me paid this cain of money for the bag is the le boy, i hope to found in others colors too. the rest of the collection is fine but not really innovative for some one like me that born in caribean. i don’t think they worth the price unless i have so much money to trow away.

Lori

I am not usually a big fan on Chanel, but this is a gorgeous collection. I just love it. I hope Cuba made some money off having this big show there.

Rada

That cigar box clutch ????????

kathyjazz

This collection really spoke to me! Those Che Guevara-inspired berets, the safari-style short suit with macrame fringe, the coco t-shirt, the vintage car print, color block oxford shoes, the wide neck knit tops, fun bracelets and baubles on some of the bags. Great! Bags 9, 11 and 13 are divine, but how about 12? How cute is that little number? I was fortunate enough to have traveled to Havana well before the relaxed restrictions, and while the irony of even holding a Chanel runway show there is not lost on many of us, what an honor to the Cuban people and their culture to be the inspiration! While probably no one on the island could afford these items now (or would be willing to buy them), this will change. The Cuban people’s resourcefulness should not be underestimated! In my view, this collection is win-win.

Kim

I love this collection! Especially the t-shirt & the brooches. Can’t wait to see the rest of the bags that will come.

Jewish Chick

The palette of colors is very fresh but I have to be honest, nothing really caught my eye too much AND I’m not exactly to be thrilled to be sporting a country’s name on a $4000 bag that’s associated with a nasty communist regime 🙁

Karen

That was my exact feeling.

Imgoingbroke

Yep, I love this entire collection. The clothes are beautiful, and I love the entire ensemble in slide #21. Fantastic bags, jewelry, shoes and clothing. Bravo.

Bag hoarder

the collection is such fun! Love the panama hats Too…

Bag hoarder

i agree, the cigar box clutch is clever!!!

Alex575

I like the Cigar Box Clutch. Probably not practical but it’s kitschy!

Pjj

Karl is a genius, this collection is outstanding!

Holly Stanton

The point of these collections is to have bags that not everyone would find it practical to purchase. You really have money if you can throw money after bags that are so topical and whimsical. A standard flap bag may be a “good” investment, but I really think someone is into fashion or is of a certain social strata if they can afford to not play it safe with their bags. It takes more work to build outfits around these bags than just grabbing a black flap or a birkin and putting on a dress or jeans.

Daisy Fields

I see only the insanely rich can say what they don’t like. Let people have their own opinion without placing a price tag on whose opinion to value. I sure not all insanely rich people want a ridiculous bag to prove their worth to others or like these bags enough to use.

Holly Stanton

What? You misread my comment. I simply think that safe choices are boring and status quo. I never said that only insanely rich people can have opinions.

laura

The cigar box clutch is stunning

Suzanne

GAH, the detailing on this collection is wonderful. And NUMBER 13!!!!!

But yeah, I don’t think I would pay to have any bag with a communist country’s name on it.
