Chanel Went With Straight-Up Pretty Bags for its Fall 2015 Runway

For the past several seasons, Chanel has leaned heavily on themes to inform its collections, and its accessory design in particular. First came art school, then protest rallies, and with them some huge hits and notable misses in the bag department. For Fall 2015, Chanel certainly still has a theme (the French brasserie), but the bags feel more balanced–most of them are just straight-up beautiful, with a few theme pieces sprinkled throughout.

The collection was full of Chanel classics, including the Classic Flap, Reissue and Boy Bag. Many of them were adorned with mosaic tiles or metallic accents, and a few of them reflected the restaurant theme; notably, one Reissue was studded with tiny utensils, and another clutch was made to look like two small stacks of plates. Perhaps the most clever implementation was a clutch adorned with a metal fork, twirling a few strands of pearls as though they were pasta.

There was still a bit of weirdness, though; several models wore knitted vests that had awkward kangaroo pouches at the back, and several of the bags were made of puffed and scrunched leather, which looked a little like a matte garbage bag. On the whole, though, Chanel produced a strong collection that contained the kinds of bags the brand’s fans will no doubt find enchanting.

This collection is amazing. I love the two-tone Boy. And I’m intrigued by the menu/flap clutch.

No future indulgences here for me. My bank balance & accountant will be happy.

I’m in love with the mosaic Boy and flap bags I have to have one! Aside from the weird knitted/kangaroo/sweater bags I loved the collection. Very pretty indeed.

Liza

So many gorgeous wearable bags!!! I’m in heaven.

I don’t get the knitted backpacks. They look like a junior high school Home Ec project gone seriously wrong. And I hate to think what Chanel might be charging for them. On the other hand, I am madly in love with the flap bag in the cover picture… the one with silver, gold, and black woven leather. Admittedly, it does look a bit like the sort of tilework you’d find in the ladies room of an upscale restaurant. And I certainly would never carry it with the matching… um… skirt? coat? But paired with the right outfit, it would be a stunning evening bag. The sort of bag to carry at an upscale restaurant.

I think I remember reading on my instagram feed that those were actual tiles, and since there was actual concrete embroidered in many looks from last fall Couture collection I don’t see why would be different in here. As for the knitted backpacks it seems to be an offspring of the new “Girl” bags

Thank you for the clarification, h.r…. that’s very interesting. If they’re real tiles, wouldn’t that make the bag terribly heavy? And I wonder how they secure the tiles in place? I’d hate to look down one night and discover that a tile had popped off! I agree that the knitted backpacks are an offspring of the Girl bags; I just think they’re a mistake. Not every design should be “offsprung.” 😉

I will assume you aren’t seeing the post on a big screen, or maybe my view is much better than I thought. every tile is perforated at each corner so they are sewn and I would imagine there also some kind of glue involved although I have no idea on what t

Love the clutch in slide 17, but I feel like you could just empty out a Chanel powder case, add a chain, and have the same thing.

Fatima

I love the menu bag! So different and beautiful!

Sofia

The mosaic flaps look like they could become a classic, just like the Boy bags

Lina Lee

slide Number 21 I like, and slide number 29 I love. Chanel what are you trying to do? How about slide number 22, I don’t see plates or drinking glasses? hehe. Come on.

No

I like 15 and 17.

geenak

So guess I don’t have to worry about buying anything from this collection 🙂 The tile bags are interesting but not me. Menu bags? really? The girl bag is a no. The bow bags are just odd.

Katrina

The croc bag is slide 21 is gorgeous! And the strap is fresh and interesting, too. The contrast woven Boy in 15 is also beautiful. I also quite like the clutch in slide 10. I normally think that the huge interlocking Cs are too much, but I like the art deco feel of that clutch. The mosaic bags are not for me, but are quite beautiful.

Sparkletastic

I usually find something to love in every Chanel collection. But, nothing here is “pretty” or covet worthy. And, I hate the mosaic tiles. Blech!

Mel

I really dislike the Girl bag. Scratch that. I really HATE the Girl bag. Sorry Karl.

Maya

Hate the Girl Bag…

Stefanie

I like the mosaic flaps!!

One year ago, after quitting my office job , i’ve had fortune to find out about this amazing job opportunity which was a life saver… They offer online home-based work. My previous payment doing this job for them for four months was $10k… Awesome thing about is that the only thing required is simple typing and reliable internet…,,,,

Number 16 is really hideous. The mosaic bags are very pretty, though.

Olivia Jenkins

First off, I love the theme of this show. The bags… urhm, I don’t think there’s anything that I need to grab….

XXL

What is going on here? There are too many questionable pieces to point out every single one but I must say #16 and #25, the blouse looking leather satchels, are ridiculous and a disgrace to Chanel. Every time a sad collection like this is released, I hope and pray it’s a build up to an amazing collection worth elaborating subsequently (like recent Celine). I do like the tiled mosaic pieces. But if you got nothing to showcase, show nothing at all. It seems like they just threw everything out there this run.

FashionableLena

I found myself liking the novelty bags like slides 8, 11, and 17. Slide one just looks like a flap version of their cocoon bags from years ago. But, #29 is my favorite by a mile. Very classic.
I understand the need to keep things fresh, but that Girl Bag is horrific.

Daisy

Which one is the clutch with the fork & pasta effect you mentioned? Didn’t notice it when I scrolled down the shots.

Gia

I’m kinda happy there was nothing here I liked. Saving $$$

Christina Samoylov

My bets are on slide 14 becoming the sold out bag of this season. Not sure how I feel about the clutches with menus in them? A little odd.

these bags are all ugly, seriously. there is not an iota of elegance or class in any of these bags. just stick to the classics.
