The thing I love most about fashion is that it’s never stagnant. There are always new trends emerging and others being put out to pasture, only to return 20 years later if the present day old-school fashion trends are anything to go by. Because things are always ebbing and flowing in fashion, my tastes are constantly evolving as well. I tend to get bored with my wardrobe easily (anyone else?), so when my tastes take a drastic turn, I always welcome the opportunity to reinvent my style. Changing up my look regularly is what keeps me so captivated with fashion and purses—I really can never get bored with the steady flow of new designs constantly being churned out! Recently the biggest shake up in my personal style is my newly developed obsession with embossed croc leather, a look I passed over for years. Recently I’ve had a big change of heart and I am loving all things croc embossed, largely in part to Kaitlin’s Saint Laurent Sac de Jour Nano.
[sc_ic_ad1]I find croc embossed designs to be so chic and elevated, and it often makes an item appear more expensive than it actually is, which is always a nice perk. While some embossed designs are made from synthetic materials, many are created with genuine leather. Embossed leather gets its appearance from extreme heat and high pressure stamps, the end result being the elegant design of croc embossed leather that I have come to love so dearly. You can find croc embossed designs in a shiny or matte finish, and I personally am loving the look of both. The textured design of a croc embossed bag creates a richness that smooth leather is just unable to match, which is a big reason I have gravitated towards the look so strongly. Luckily there’s no shortage of croc embossed designs available right now, so you will be spoiled for choice if you choose to delve into the look. Since croc embossed bags can be found in a variety of sizes, materials, and price points, you can choose how deep into your pockets you want to go in order to achieve the look.
I’ve got a long list of croc embossed beauties that I’m lusting over at the moment! It was seriously tough to narrow down the list, but check out some of my favorites below. Do you love the look as much as I do?
JW Pei has a great embossed croc bag, the Fiona for $235. Vear has it on sale for 30% off. It’s made of vegan leather too!
Thanks for the info on this bag. I just ordered one!
I’d have a hard time shelling out more than 1000 buck for embossed croco. Sorry, Balenciaga!
I would be interested to hear your reasoning? Cause I kind of feel the same way, I just can’t put my finger on why… 🙂 I assume you would be willing to spend that amound on “the same” bag in case the leather was not embossed?
Cow hide and goat leather are a fraction of the cost of real croco even caiman quality. I am not paying 1 G for a bag that says moooo! I will shell out up to 800 at most.
Ah, so you don’t buy cow or goat leather bags for more than 800 when not embossed either?
The reasoning in my head (I wish I didn’t think like this) goes more along the lines of it making me feel icky to buy something that “pretends” to be something it is not? Embossed croc kind of gives me a fake-feel, regardless of the quality, beauty, the brand name or the price.
Would you buy the real thing? It’s a beautiful texture, but I struggle with using it because you’d be killing the animal for its skin, rather than the skin being a by-product of the meat industry. I’m not judging either way, just curious. I eat cow, so I have no trouble using its hide. It somehow makes me feel less wasteful. I love crocodile texture, definitely like the look of the real thing better, and am not generally into fakes, but to me, embossing cow leather feels kind of like a good compromise. Thoughts?
I guess my annoyance comes from being in the business for so long. I know that an emboss cow hide and a non emboss cow hide can cost almost the same money so when I see a “Croco” (emphasis on the quotation marksman!) bag costing a bit more than its grain leather version I know it’s just a ploy to get more money out of my pocket. The truth is that highly pigmented, embossed leather are usually treated that way to hide flaws in the leather. It definitely does scream quality when I see them.
ive always LOVED croc bags but only just got one last month so this is great timing! it’s by a brand called Radley London which i had never heard of until i stumbled upon the bag in TJ maxx. it’s GORGEOUS and was such a steal for only 69.99 (real leather too!) my significant other AND his dad both complimented it separately. i actually found it online on QVC but not their own brand website:
https://www.qvc.com/qvc.product.A342629.html?colorId=J53&sizeId=000&ref=GBA&cm_mmc=GOOGLESHOPPINGFEED-_-GShopping|L|BrandProduct|accessories|handbags-_-pla-_-sqq86287k|dc_42439062952_pla-661049520194__A342629-J53-000_&mkwid=sqq86287k|dc_pcrid_42439062952_661049520194_pkw__pmt__productid_A342629-J53-000&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI-4Cj2NS34QIVAa_ICh0bvg6eEAQYASABEgIBKvD_BwE
i bought the charcoal color (more of a brownish in person) even though they had all 3 at TJ’s. definitely check it out!
Looks like at $69.99 you got a steal! It’s listed on QVC at $250. That’s a pretty bag.
Not a fan of embossed croc. Too heavy looking.
Do you like real croc, or is it just croc in general that turns you off?
Real is better of course! But both just aren’t my bag. Too formal maybe?
Maxwell Scott has a couple of mock croc leather bags, that are classic in design, elegant and at a more reasonable price, under 500€ as seen on line at http://www.bag-selection.com
My Hermes SA called me, a few months ago, to offer me a $60K Crocodile Birkin. I turned it down because $60 K (?), but much more importantly killing exotic animals for bags makes me cringe. Also, the look and feel of any croc bag, embossed or other, is just not a good look, IMO.
Timeless or passe? I got an embossed croc frame and a real snake skin bag at Handbag Heaven when I was in Edinburgh recently, each for less than 50 GBP!
I vote timeless. Leopard print, croc texture, snakeskin, polka dots, stripes, etc. They’re all classics.
I agree to a certain extent. I have always liked croc and am happy with embossed to avoid harm to any exotic animal. I also have a thing for all things camouflage.
Hey Lucy, if you’ve always blown off croc until recently, why do you think your taste has changed? The sac du jour is a pretty bag, but is hardly a new twist on using croc. Do you think it’s just because you love the bag style already, so seeing the croc texture on a bag you already love puts it in a new light?
I love croc. Always have. And I’m curious how tastes change. I think I’m going through a similar taste transition about leopard print. 🙂
Also, I don’t love any of these example bags, but i’m starting to get super excited all-white croc as seen in the Tory Burch bag. May have to design my own version.
I like bags that have croc effect trim and details, but not a 100% embossed or real croc bag. All croc is just too much croc.
Real or not at all.
I got a Kenneth Cole croc embossed hobo at an outlet in Aurora, IL for $50 over a decade ago. It’s much better looking and more chic than any of these.
That Wandler bag is everything! I adore that Brahmin and the price. And let’s not forget that Balenciaga! ?
