Lunch Bag Style Clutches Are a Apparently a Thing

Once upon a time elementary school-aged kids bonded over trading what was in their brown paper bags at lunch instead of watching YouTube videos on each others iPhones. Remember Gushers and Fruit Rollups? What about Dunkaroos? Those things were the holy grail of trades! It’s funny though, just as handbag trends ebb and flow I remember times in my childhood where it was cool to carry a brown paper bag lunch, and other times having a lunchbox that coordinated with your Gap Kids backpack was the way to go. I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I missed those simpler times. If you’re feeling nostalgic too, well, hold on to your hats because lunch bag bags (is that how I should be saying it?) are an honest to God thing. So if you’re still into packing a lunch, but don’t want to brown bag it because, you know, the environment, you can now upgrade that canvas bag you’re currently using.

Alexander Wang is the latest designer to come out with a fancy lunch bag, but you better not spill your milk inside because it’s currently available only in satin. Though Simon Miller also has a plethora of leather options available in various sizes, colors and even prints it seems that the original lunch bag bag was designed by independent designer Beth Goodman under her label Marie Turnor in 2009. Marie Turnor bags are designed and handmade in Los Angeles, California. Designer Beth Goodman’s original ‘Picnic Clutch’ was inspired by a visit to Paris where she was enamored with a chic Parisian woman who was walking around with a paper bag in hand. And while it’s the norm for fashion brands to take inspiration from one another, there should be a line between inspiration and a blatant copy, but what is that line? The brand’s instagram page has discussed disappointment with big social media powerhouse brands copying its design but as this trend becomes more mainstream, other brands are bound to pick it up as well.
