Like It or Not, Mini and Super-Mini Bags Are Here to Stay

Check out the latest finds...

Just when you thought bags couldn’t get any smaller, designers well, made them smaller! First there was the Jacquemus Le Chiquito and then came the Mini Le Chiquito and suddenly it seemed that designers were taking this whole mini bag thing too far. While may of us scoffed at the idea of a micro bag—what the heck can you actually fit in there after all?—mini bags are a practical trend when done right. The spring 2020 runways proved that the micro bag trend is going nowhere fast, and a glance into the new arrivals of our favorite online shopping destinations prove that mini bags are indeed trending still as well. Check out our latest finds from the tiny-bag department below.

Right! SMH

Lori

I love this trend. Probably doesn’t make the most sense, but so cute!

Marie Mota

Right? I do too but don’t understand all the negativeness. If its not for you – it’s okay! Have a great day!

Lori

I just came back to this thread to look at the bags again and then saw the comments and was like “whaaa????. Why so negative?” They are just a bunch of little bags trying to make their way into the big bag world…. 😉 They aren’t hurting anyone.

Amanda C.

THAT! LOL!

Gigi

I’m torn with small bags; they’re darling, but the price and impracticality make them a no for me

Paula

I agree with you re: the price and impracticality of mini’s.

jackiequeue

Random musing: I really think of the mini-bag trend as a throwback to the days when some high society women didn’t carry handbags at all (gosh — 1700s, I guess?), since they had servants to carry their belongings for them and no need to haul around a day planner & a wallet & makeup & keys & 4 cans of La Croix & snacks & etc etc. They were taken care of in that way. Except now handbags ARE a high society symbol — at least the ones on PurseBlog are — and so this is a way to have that cake and eat it too.

Anyway, I think they’re fun and cute! But way too expensive for what they are.

Unreasonable

When you take into consideration that it’s mostly the design and brand name that you pay for regardless if the bag is small or big – the prices are quite reasonable.

It’s not like you get $2000 worth of leather/canvas when you buy a luxury bag anyway so I don’t understand why so many get upset with the mini bag prices. Why would they give their designs and brand status away for free just because the bag is tiny?

No name

Did u read my post..i said a bag that does not fit at all like mention in the article jacquemus mini le chichito bag were u can only put 1 gum not even a whole pack of gum then it is actually flexing…

No name

When u buy the bag simply because of the design and status and u cannot fit anything at all..thats what we call bragging

Unreasonable

No name, why would you spend thousands of dollars on a bag if it was not for the design? Big or small. If it’s just the functionality you are after you get away with paying way less – even for a quality product.

No name and Paula. If that is how you view it, is any type of art just bragging – or stupid, or is it just the pieces that we wear? A expensive painting, statue? Would you say the same about a beautiful headpiece that really doesn’t have a function at all beyond it looks? Jewellery?

Both of you seem very judgemental, loosen up a little, fashion is all about having fun.

I personally love the mini bag trend, not as small as some of these, but I would much rather spend 1500 dollars on a cute little bag that only fits my phone, my three cards that I carry, and a single key, than on a big and heavy bag that I know I wont use much because all I carry daily is what I mentioned above. I hate to drag around excess weight, but I enjoy having a little every day bag that is both cute and stylish and therefor I am happy to pay for someone to make a beautiful design for me to wear, I don’t expect them to hand the bag out for me for free, I actually value the creative work behind the piece higher than the width of the leather.

Paula

One thing that I like about this blog is that everyone has the ability and right to express their own opinions. My comments refer only to mini handbags, which to some, is a form of art. I’m not referencing art in general since that is an entirely different topic. (We can discuss this at a later date, if you want, because this is my specialty).

I don’t like mini handbags because to me they are useless and stupid, but to you they aren’t, which is fine. Mini handbags cannot carry anything that I need during the day and for me they are too expensive. I have bags from all high end brands because I like to purchase quality items, but not mini’s. If you like them, they work for you and you feel the price is fair then buy them. However, because we disagree and I refer to them as “stupid” doesn’t make me “judgmental”. It’s my opinion and I use this terminology for something that I don’t like, only. We don’t have to agree and we don’t have to share the same values or opinions; there is nothing wrong with that.

Daisy_the_Havi

LOL! I find this discussion hilarious because the word stupid is literally a judgemental word.

Unreasonable

I misunderstood you then, I personally don’t use “stupid” to describe something that I personally don’t like it it would not get the use out of, so I assumed you ment that it is stupid to buy mini bags (in other Words, that mini bag owners är stupid) so I wanted to offer another perspective. Do you call, say, wheelchairs, male underwear or other things that you may personally not use or need stupid to? ?

Paula

You are really bothered by the word “stupid”. I explained myself, but it is clear that you did not read my comments or did not understand so I will explain, one final time. The word “stupid” is not a word that I use often, but I did in this context. For me, mini bags are too small to carry many items and ridiculously overpriced which makes them “stupid” TO ME and basically useless for my purposes. People who carry them are NOT stupid, and I did not imply this. I cannot get on board with this trend and do you know what? That is ok! I don’t like them and you apparently do and that’s great! Enjoy them!

Lastly, you asked if I find “male underwear or other things that you (I) may not personally use or need stupid “to” (but you should have wrote “too”). My answer to this obnoxious and ridiculous question is “No, I do not consider wheelchairs or male underwear stupid because I don’t personally use them”. That is probably the most insane thing that I have ever been asked. Now, do you finally understand that I was ONLY speaking about mini bags and NOT “art, mens underwear, wheelchairs, etc”? You don’t like or use the word “stupid”? Ok, that’s fine, but can you finally let it go? Your name “Unreasonable” really best describes you. Oy vey!

Unreasonable

Oh, I can see that my “joking”-smiley in the end didn’t pop up here, sorry for that, I can see why my last comment did not come off as humouristic as I found it “in my head”, haha. And sure, not a super fun joke, but I was just trying to keep it light hearted. I see that it did not come off that way. I do see your point, as I said, I misunderstood your usage of the word “stupid” and I just wanted to add another perspective. Oy vey oy vey.

Paula

Oh, thank goodness you were joking! I’m sorry as well that I missed your humor!

Paula

Bragging or just simply being stupid. Seriously, what is the point of carrying such a small bag that holds very little, if anything? They are pointless and if no-one bought them they’d go away, but whatever. People will throw their money at any trend to stay relevant…I guess.

Marie Mota

I disagree. Sometimes you don’t feel like carrying a heavy bag and you would be surprised at what I can fit into my minis. My id, cards, keys, gum, compact and a lip stick and I’m out the door. The bigger the bag, the more junk you carry and accumulate. So it’s not stupid at all. And bragging it is not. I just love quality bags, big or small but call it what you’d like – I’ve never really been one to care what others think of me! Good day ladies!

Paula

That’s fine if you like your mini’s. These are simply not for me because they are too small and stupidly ridiculous, for me, since they hardly carry anything. This is my opinion. If we disagree, we disagree. It’s not personal and we both are entitled to our own and very different opinions.

Biogirl

I like bigger bags so I can take around all the stuff I need, but I find that sometimes, I don’t actually need that much stuff for a quick trip to the grocery store. For work or a shopping trip, that’s a whole nother story! Also, small bags (ones you can at least fit a phone and wallet in) can be a slightly less expensive way to get a bag from a top designer.

Marie Mota

They can also cost a little more but I love minis! I’m not always in the mood to carry a heavy bag and you are right – you don’t actually always need to lug around a bunch of stuff!

Mona'n'Louisa

I have read a lot of comments including your preference to a mini bag as opposed to a heavy bag. Who says that a larger bag has to be heavy? There are light-weight large bags as there are heavy small bags. Some of us actually need to carry around more than just a phone and a lipstick with us on a daily basis.

ILP

Camera bag…yes! These ridiculous mini bags that can’t even accommodate a phone…a BIG no!

Marie Mota

Not true unless you’re carrying a phone from the 1980s. My iphone 11 fits perfectly – along with my keys, cards and a few other things!

Carlotta

I sense a theme…you like mini bags, right? ?

ILP

Dear God! You have posted six responses in defense of the micro bag. How much money have you invested in this stupid trend that you are so desperately defending it??

Cindy

Almost fell out of my chair laughing so hard! ?

Marie Mota

I am in love with minis. I purchased a Prada mini a few years back and never used it until recently I saw Gigi Hadid carrying the same bag so I got mine out and have been using it regularly. I’ve read that Gigi is a big fan of vintage minis. I think I may follow her on that trend!

Marie Mota

Great blog Kaitlin! I’m a big fan of minis and so is Gigi Hadid!

Marian

Gigi Hadid? It’s so much better to be a leader than a follower.

Belle

I haven’t seen so many rude people in the PB comments in a while!

Sparky

I like mini bags. Micros not so much. Would help if there was a ruler or phone next to these so we get a sense of HOW small they are.

Lvvvoe

Who cares if people buy the trend or not. I personally love smaller cross bodies as they’re practical for pretty much everything… but some of these look like they wouldn’t fit my phone which is a dealbreaker for me. I love luxury but has to be practical to work for me. However, there are many people who may be in the fashion industry and their first priority might not be practicality OR cost. For some people, “throwing away” $600 isn’t a big deal. To each their own.

KangKangKang

In ref to big prices for small bags… I have tiny feet. I have to pay the same amount as someone with very large feet for the same style of shoe. Sometimes I can fit in kid’s shoes. I can buy what is essentially the same shoe with same dimensions from same company in kid’s and it costs less.

Jerri R

In other words, coin purses with handles or straps? OK! Cute to look at.
