It’s the day before Thanksgiving, you’re at the airport about to make your way to security. You begin to casually remove your camel coat, Acne scarf and ankle boots, when it hits you. You’ve brought your most cumbersome, delicate, handbag to the AIRPORT! Of all the cross bodies and wallets on chains, you opted for the heaviest tote that leaves an indent in your shoulder. Good luck finding wiggle room between you, your fellow passenger, and your massive lambskin tote.
Selecting a handbag for traveling feels like an elimination of America’s Next Top Model. You have two bags in your hand, one that’s durable, but feels like a brick and another that has potential, but may not withstand unpredictable travel arrangements. For Example: Can it go through security smoothly? Will you scream internally if the bag gets smothered in a crowded area? Can it go from the airport, to five family member’s homes, to intense holiday shopping, to catching up with friends for ramen?
Lugging a purse that’s packed to the brim like a stuffed turkey, isn’t very practical or chic. You never know where you and your handbag will end up, especially during a holiday trip. Do you really want to hold up lines at the airport trying to find that YSL card case buried in your tote? Of course not!
So what makes a great travel handbag? It has to be something easily accessible, versatile, durable, not high maintenance, and fits basic necessities such as, wallets, car keys, passports, main makeup products etc. Thankfully, various design houses offer travel proof bags that check the required boxes, and are so luxe they can do a flat lay in five seconds. Gucci Soho series – will never go out of style. The Disco just leaps off the page.
I love the Disco so much. Looks small but can fit a lot of stuff.
the gucci soho disco and balenciaga city bag (regular size) are my tried and tested go-to travel/airplane friendly bags…and the longchamp le pliage for the overhead compartment of course!
I used to use large bags along with my rolling carry on. Now I use small bags and tuck them into my personal item I was using a large lesportsac tote for a while, this year I got a tumi backpack on sale. I got tired of my tote sliding off of my rolling carry on and the backpack has a sleeve you can slide over the handle of the rolling bag. The Gucci soho disco is one of my regular every day bags and easily fits into a larger tote/backpack. I also enjoy that I’m being more discreet with what I’m carrying around. I remember carrying around a Balenciaga work with GGH and a velo fully stuffed and damn they were heavy. Now I’m all about making it as easy as possible to move around without hurting my shoulder/back with heavy loads.
That’s the nano. Not the mini city. For that price though, you’d think it was a mini…
