When you look at the overarching trends in the accessories world, it makes perfect sense that heavily embellished bags are having a moment right now. The market is crowded and consumers don’t want to carry the exact same bag as all their friends and every celebrity in the known universe; in order to stand out, things like personalization services are on the rise, and seasonal variation is increasing as well. It’s no longer enough to put out a few new colors of leather and call it a day for three to six months.
Which brings us, of course, to this season’s embellished bags. It’s spring, so there are, of course, plenty of beaded or appliquéd florals to choose from, as well as pounds of sequins and miles of embroidery. Great photos, but I wish there had also been pull-back shots so you could see the bags in their entirety without clicking on a link. Number 8 reminds me of the bags I can get at our local Fair Trade store, only it costs at least 5 times as much as those.

I think it is very difficult to produce extremely embellished bags without making them look like DIY projects gone wrong. A couple of the bags above are beautiful, others are overwhelming. I prefer the less embellished version of all the bags above.

A lot of these are fun, and a few are even beautiful. It’s a good way to bring charm and whimsy into your wardrobe without being silly.
