The 10 Best Weekender Bags for Summer 2019

They'll take you here, there, and everywhere

I travelled to Europe for a month to study abroad in between my sophomore and junior years of college. I knew with certainty that my bags would be coming home a bit fuller than when they left, and I wanted to be smart about that when I was packing. In addition to my large suitcase I decided to bring along a duffle that I could carry a bit empty and fill up when I returned to the states. Naturally none of the old duffle bags that were sitting in my family’s attic would make the cut, so on the hunt I went for a stylish, yet practical weekender style bag. I landed on the Longchamp Le Pliage Expandable Travel Bag. It was the perfect combination of affordable (I was a broke college student, duh!), stylish and practical. Nothing beat the expandable center, and of course I came home with the bag unzipped and full to the brim.

Fast forward 9 years and I consider that bag one of the best purchases I ever made. I’ve carried it on countless trips and I’ve even used it to carry handbag samples for PurseBlog photoshoots, but mostly I use it for weekend trips. Living in NYC with my family residing just outside of the city I am constantly on the move. I tend to head to Long Island once every two or three weeks, and my Longchamp bag has always been my trusty companion. This summer I’m looking to up my weekender bag game for the trips I have planned. I plan on heading out east to the Hamptons or visiting Hudson in Upstate New York. I’ll never part with my Longchamp, but I am looking to add another weekender to my rotation. I’m eyeing one of the designer picks as I want to elevate my weekender a bit more, but for those who don’t want to break the bank I’ve also listed my trusty Le Pliage as well as another budget-friendly pick!

Glad to see Le Pliage included. PB really needs to do an entire column on the Pliage, its history, its iconic status, its global popularity, and its variations over the years. Lots of great bags here, but I’m not crazy about that orange chain on the LV. Is it plastic? And if I could add one more to the list, a men’s bag but so Euro chic: https://www.barneys.com/product/fontana-milano-1915–22man-sporty-22-duffel-bag-504723940.html

Yeah. It’s polycarbonate on some and clear acetate on others. Fancy words for plastic lol

That bag is $5,440.00!

It’s “Bandoulière,” not “Bandouliére.”

Since many of the bags featured on Purseblog are French brands, it might be helpful for the writers to study a bit of French

Jettsam

Really?

Catie

Oh boy, no room for human error on this blog.

Master Green

There are spelling errors in many of this contributor’s posts. PurseBlog needs a better editor!

Catie

Your specific attack is due to her misplacement of the angle of the accent, which is overly critical and petty. You can’t justify your actions by pointing out past spelling mistakes the author may have made.

Master Green

LOL

Maybe you need to get your free read somewhere else

Don’t you understand that YOU and ME are the products on PurseBlog… it’s free because the blog sells access to us, the readers, to advertisers. Nothing wrong with that business model… just pointing out it’s not really “free.” 😉

Bryan Lepe

I’m happy she even made the effort to add an accent lol. Most people don’t even bother with the accents when writing in English with French words. When you speak it, the inflection in the word or emphasis on certain letters changes the meaning of the word.

I have the Grand Duffel and Stowaway bags from Paravel, and they are *great.* Definitely worth checking out if you’re in the market!

Bryan Lepe

The Saint Laurent 6 Duffel is good too! Especially for the price you can find them at on the resale sites. The Antigona and Lucrezia are nice alternatives as well.

Jennifer Nieves

I’ll always stick to nylon for travel. Light and water resistant. I like MZ Wallace and Kipling. That Rains bag looks nice too.

Lo & Sons. The Catalina. $128.

Cat

I was casually scrolling and the Rains bag caught my eye! Great price too!
