Proenza Schouler Gave Us the Best Handbag Collection of New York Fashion Week Fall 2014

After two blockbuster handbag hits with the PS1 and PS11 bags, Proenza Schouler’s accessories success has been in something of a holding pattern. That happens to many brands after an initial fit of success; learning how to turn those first instincts into stable, replicable growth requires a little bit of alchemy, at the very least. Based on the Proenza Schouler Fall 2014 handbags, Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez may have hit their stride.

The bags in this collection feature a lot of notable details: a repurposed portion of the PS11 hardware, tons of gorgeous crocodile skins, tactile short fur elements, prints, colorblocking. What’s most notable, though, is that the bags finally feel fresh. They don’t feel like PS1 retreads, and they aren’t the kind of misfire that the PS13 turned out to be. They’re modern, luxurious and notably Proenza, just like they should be.

I wish I didn’t like these so much. I can practically feel my paychecks vanishing.

laura

I love every single one of them!

WANT (feeling like kindled). Did anyone notice the rings ? Quite spectacular

Lilly

I like the rings much better than the bags myself.

Chloe

I noticed the rings first rather than the bags too! Kind of reminds me of the YSL Arty rings though.

bananadelrey

Does anyone know how much those rings will be?

Love all the different prints and structures. I’m curious what the buyers from my fav department store will buy.

Really nice

I have to disagree. None of these bags has the combined style and functionality that made the PS1 such a success. I find the collection disappointing.

Same here! I don’t want to “clutch” the stuff I need to carry to work, or to go out: a desirable bag, in my view, has outside pockets for keys and a cell phone, a shoulder strap that let you hold hands with your sweetheart, and enough style to look good while being practical. I wish they made somwthing like that… Oh, wait, that is the PS1… 😉

Im really dont like the PS1 bags but im LOVING this collection. The clutches are amazing! They remind me of the hermes medor clutch(just came to mind) but much cleaner and im loving the colour combinations!

Yoshi

I like the bags but the collection overall just reminded me of Balenciaga during the reign of Nicolas Ghesquiere.

love the black (fur) on black (leather) clutch… such a fresh idea for colorblocking…

and the colorblocked shoulder bag with the cobalt blue alligator (croc?) flap is just divine!!!

but i do have to agree that the closures look like a simplified/modified version of the Hermes Medor.. but it’s more modern and architectural so no biggie.. haha

and like most comments, the rings are especially noteworthy.. and definitely getting one, that’s for sure

didn’t like the all croc/alligator bag with the cobalt resin.. i feel like the design lacks the Luxe appeal for the croc/alligator skin to shine through.. but if it was stamped, it’s forgivable.. hahaha..

but if i were to splurge on a luxe bag for next season, i would save up for the Jason Wu fur bag.. it’s a statement by itself!
