Dare I say it, but I think I am starting to like And Just Like That about halfway into the season. I know, I know, episode 1 had some of the most cringeworthy moments I’ve seen on recent TV, and this is coming from someone who watches a lot of bad TV. I always stick around because I like the levity of the show itself, I am not trying to think too hard, I am looking for a show that offers my mind a break.
The next few episodes were okay, and the bags and style continued strong. Now, I have a rundown of episodes 5 and 6 of this season for you.
So, let’s pick up where we left off: with a plot that is easy to forget but includes some funny and real moments.
Episode 5: Under the Table
Miranda has to move in with Carrie briefly because her neighbor across the hall was blasting music. When he caught Miranda placing a note under his door to ask him to quiet down, he yelled at her with a knife while giving her a terrifying full-frontal nude view. Ok, so maybe the show is still nuts.
Suffice it to say, Carrie and Miranda are great friends, but not great roommates.

Just when you thought the show was only going to offer silly plotlines, Harry takes Charlotte for a walk and tells her that he has prostate cancer. This plot line is integral to a show like this because, as much as we want a fun escape, so many of us face the news that ourselves or our loved ones have an illness or health issue, and it’s incredibly hard to navigate. I’ve actually loved how the show has woven this very serious storyline in.

While Charlotte quietly deals with her husband’s health news, Carrie has stopped wearing heels inside to not disrupt her basement neighbor, a fellow writer, who only works at night and is bothered by her mere existence and pitter-patter of her heeled feet during the day.

Episode 6: Silent Mode
Plenty of other things happened in episode 5, but we move on to episode 6. Seema is no longer taking on the real estate firm that she helped run, which has been a blow to her ego and wallet. Later in this episode, we see Seema needing to say goodbye to her driver and her car.
However, she works diligently to find a place that fits Miranda’s very specific needs.

We are also faced with another major personal bombshell: Lisa’s dad died. Lisa struggles with this greatly, as she was editing her film and actively chose not to take the call from her husband’s campaign manager, who was calling to let her know to rush to the hospital to see her dad. This scene broke me. It was the reminder of how fleeting life is, and how we must live in every moment we are gifted without worry and regret, which is incredibly hard to do.

Charlotte is still hoping to not have anyone learn about Harry’s cancer diagnosis, so when a society friend spots her outside of Sloan Kettering, she makes up a volunteer position she is going to for the day.

This scene left me with one major question: How much did Michael Kors pay for the serious bag plugs? The bag was referenced by name, not once but multiple times, and given a lot of exposure. To be honest, if that is what the brand wanted, I would have picked a different bag. There are far better options, in my opinion.

I don’t have any moments to include Aidan because he doesn’t carry bags. I used to love him in the original series, but now I find him fairly awful as a character. Carrie forgave him for sleeping with his ex-wife because they didn’t have boundaries set, and in my opinion, he continues to be the worst.

At the end of the episode, Carrie finds Charlotte in a random pharmacy across town buying items to prep for Harry’s surgery, and can finally break down and share what Harry is going through. It was the most cathartic scene for Charlotte and showed the depth of these friendships and how integral it is for all of us to have these kinds of friends. The ones we can laugh with, go to brunch with, and lean on.

Good to know that I am not the only one that does not like Aidan one bit. I was so hoping Carrie would give him the heave ho.
SATC’s Aidan? Cute. AJLT Aidan? Nope. he got too much drama.
A million percent agree!!
Oooph, he just makes me cringe every single time! He expected Carrie to wait for him for 5 years, only speak to him when it worked for him, and still slept with his ex-wife… I just don’t care for who he has become!
I love the mix of bags and the recap megs, keep them coming!
Even if I don’t want to, I am here to cover it all!! Ha
I dislike Carrie so much, I hope she ends up alone and miserable.
