You may have heard about Kendall and Kylie Jenners’ recently launched shoe line, aptly named Kendall + Kylie; the youth-focused (but not cheap) collection landed in some huge retailers, including Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus. Handbags were conspicuously absent from the mix, especially for two sisters who love them so much, but that won’t be true much longer: Women’s Wear Daily reports that for fall, the sisters’ handbags will debut in stores like Neiman Marcus and Saks.
Many licensed celebrity fashion lines aim for a mass-market price tag, but like the clothes and shoes in the Kendall + Kylie line, the bags will occupy a price range that’s more in line with “contemporary” handbags: $75 to $450, for shapes ranging from clutches to roomier day bags in materials like croc-stamped leather and calf hair. The bag above, which is called the Brooke Mini Satchel, will retail for $295, according to Racked. For comparison’s sake, that’s roughly comparable to brands like Rebecca Minkoff and Botkier.
Although the Jenner sisters are well known for their tastes in designer fashion, their very young fanbases might make handbags on the higher end of their price range less interesting to those who can afford them. Women in the market for a handbag that costs several hundred dollars are likely a bit older than those who look to Kendall and Kylie for style inspiration without feeling self-conscious about it, which could make bags a tougher sell than, say, Kylie’s affordably priced (and notoriously quick-selling) lip kits.
If the bag was right, could you see yourself spending a couple hundred bucks on a Kendall + Kylie branded bag, or would the label turn you off?
No, not for Kardashian filth.
I still hesitate when it comes to Victoria Beckham and Kimora Lee Simmons and the quality on those are on point. The pictured bag has cheap black paint and poor stitching. I can see a loose thread on the pic! It’s clear Kendall and Kylie are trying to sell their name, not a good product.
Its funny you mention Victoria Beckham because I agree completely. Consider the resale value of her product on websites like therealreal and portero. It is practically a joke. Just goes to show you that its a horrible investment.
To be fair, I don’t take into consideration resale value because purses are a depreciating asset and horrible to consider as investments in general. I just take into consideration how much I’m paying for a name vs. how much I’m paying for a quality product.
I am obsessed with The Row; I haven’t seen Victoria Beckham bags in person, but maybe they’ll be getting better. Her clothing is getting more adventurous/more voice so I feel like maybe her bags will start to get more interesting too.
You couldn’t give it to me for free…
Simple answer is No…thank you
Not for me or even my daughters.
Looks very cheaply made, but I’m sure there are some teenagers who will buy. I’d be embarrassed to carry one of their bags.
Totally agree with you Karen. It looks so cheap and doesn’t show any quality craftsmen ship. It is something you can find it from weekend market in Thailand or China. But hey they have heaps of brainwashed teenager followers!!! Anyway, just NO NO NO!!!
“…someone you can find from weekend market in Thailanf or China.” Lol so apropos!
I’d rather go with a lower priced Michael Kors from
last season purchased at TJ Maxx than carry and contribute to their empire. Sorry.
Not a prayer– for myself OR my daughter.
I think the teens/tweens won’t care about quality of materials/craftsmanship; they see the names Kylie & Kendall and they will just fall over each other to get their products.
Me, one the other hand, am much much older and would rather go back to wearing neon fanny packs than ever be caught carrying a bag from one of those Kardashians/Jenners!
Not even for $1.00.
I’d be absolutely ashamed to carry or wear anything from them.
I wouldn’t- and surprisingly, not because I’m not a Kardashian fan. As many others have pointed out, the quality of the handbag above just doesn’t look like something that I’d be willing to invest my hard earned wardrobe budget on. That being said, I think a lot of people assume that only teenagers look to Kendall and Kylie for fashion queues- I disagree. I think that you will see a lot of young women purchasing from their handbag line as they begin to navigate away from disposable bags to making quality purchases. I may be wrong, but from my experience, that disposable shopper doesn’t just jump from their $30 Forever21 fabric tote to a $2000 investment handbag right away. They will start out with smaller, well known brand names in their price point. That $295 price point is a huge sweet spot for a lot of shoppers, especially those who are just beginning to learn about investing in their wardrobe, or starting their journey into the workplace.
I think you’re underestimating the disposable income of their target demographic. The fact that more mature customers will not be interested in this line, is also probably a plus not a minus.
As a more mature customer, I would be turned of by the branding, but frankly, the bag above seems fine, especially if it well made.
Right up there with Jessica Simpson. Avoid.
Let’s not forget Paris Hilton.
Came straight to the comments section … was not disappointed . LOL !!!
Hah ha, I did the same thing. We couldnt agree more!!! I say F, NO!
We figured you all would want to talk it out! Haha
Ditto for me!
Never! Ever!
$450 for the name Kendall & Kylie on a bag =S I don’t think it’s worth the investment. Would rather spend the money on better quality brands like Tory Burch or pay a bit more and get a starter Lux brand like Alexander Wang, IMO
One word: no. I wouldn’t pay a dime, wouldn’t take one for free. And if a relative of mine, teen or adult, said they were going to waste their money on one, I’d make sure they would not go without seeing at least 20 better options before making the decision…
HECK NO.
Nothing special…talking about the bag that is.
When I first learned of their various design efforts, my first questions were: who designed it, what’s the quality and how long will it last (their lines, not a specific product)? Without a track record, I wouldn’t spend money on any of their items. If someone like Reed Krakoff can fail and have to reinvent himself, I have not long-term expectations for the KK lines.
I will get a look at their sunglasses, though. I got a free pair when I recently made a $500 purchase at NM. I’ll be picking them up at NM tomorrow, so I can’t speak to the quality (I typically wear Ray Ban and Maui Jim). I’ll probably give them to my 16-year-old niece, if she’s interested.
This is an odd price point. The young dolts who like these girls could simply not afford it. The ones who could afford hopefully have more sense and personal pride than to waste $450 to be seen carrying this brand. I would rather not leave the house if I had to carry this bag. What an embarrassment.
Exactly. The price point perplexes me. Their target consumer is (I presume) young and unsophisticated. I would assume that they would be priced out. An adult professional woman who could afford this price point would be embarrassed to carry something associated with Instafamous teenagers to the office, in full view of her colleagues. Who will actually buy these? Perhaps parents of their teen fans when the bag hits the clearance section.
Hate to be blunt or rude, I never am, but this calls for a very loud and very clear “HELL NO”
No way! The bag will make you look bad.
In the words of the late Whitney Houston
HELL TO THE NO
I would not buy a Kendall and Kylie bag for myself. I have nothing against the Kardashians at all. I just prefer more sophisticated bags from Gucci, Tom Ford, Fendi and Saint Laurent. The Kendall and Kylie bags will probably be popular with teenage and twentysomething girls whose parents can afford the price. But they would probably be better off getting a bag at the Gucci summer sale or Michael Kors. These young girls gravitate to whatever is popular and they seem to have no individuality or brand loyalty. So, this could either be very good or very bad for the Jenner girls. Roll the dice…
No, I wouldn’t, and I wouldn’t let anyone I love or respect buy one, either.
Mmmmmmmmmmm…let me think long and hard…mmmmmmm…NO!!!
It’s not bad. It’s definitely very reminiscent of Rebecca Minkoff. Not my taste, but not as bad as everyone is making it out to be.
I don’t care if Mr. Magoo made that bag, it’s ugly, therefore I’d never consider purchasing it.
Looks like the designer started to copy the Celine Luggage then got lazy.
NO. Not even if you gave me $450 to take it. NEVER! Unless you gave me $5,000, then I would consider it, carry it for one day, then go to the Chanel store and buy a Chanel to make up for the humiliation of carrying a K&K bag.
LOL not a fan but we all know it’s more that they have stylists/tone of money to get bags not nececessarily that they ARE stylish. I do like Kendall’s looks but again they have Monica Rose.
No way would I spend that kind of money for their line. Also, I work to hard for them to keep getting richer off my hard earn money, sorry not me!
$450? What a rip off! I agree with you all! Would not purchase anything from the Kardashians or Jenners-they’re already dirty rich!!!
Looks Like a cheap copy of celine bag. No way I will waste my money in something like that. no even for free I will embrace my self carry this bag.
Maybe you guys are seeing something different. The line is super hot! Workmanship seems very rich and good value compared to Rebecca minkoff. I would totally buy it
Love the bag, can’t wait to see the rest of the line. Kendall and Kylie are the bomb
The truth guys, you all seem like jealous haters. Kendall and Kylie are helping to define fashion for a generation. Can’t wait to see the brand stores
