Your First Look At Virgil Abloh’s Spring-Summer 2020 Pre-Collection Bags

It's time we all start borrowing from the boys...

Virgil Abloh was named men’s creative director at Louis Vuitton in March 2018 and since his appointment, it’s arguable that consumers (both men and women) have paid more attention than ever to Louis Vuitton’s men’s bags. Abloh was in the perfect position to bring a fresh, new perspective to Louis Vuitton’s men’s collection, and he’s done just that since signing on as creative director. Also the founder of his own streetwear brand, Off-White, Abloh has continued to attract the cool, creative, and young shoppers that luxury brands crave. His popularity at the luxury giant is fairly unsurprising as he was already a household name already among fashion-obsessed millennials, particularly those interested in streetwear.

Abloh continues to curate an aesthetic and refine his vision for the brand season after season. The Spring-Summer pre-collection is said to reflect the everyday wardrobe of a ‘contemporary global dresser”. Additionally, in a move that makes sense for the direction that the brand is currently taking, Abloh was said to be influenced by the energy of today’s youth, which is also expressed in this season’s ad campaign.

For Spring-Summer 2020 Pre-Collection, Abloh introduced a colorful, epi-leather version of the wildly popular soft trunk bag, as well as a transparent PVC version with white leather trim. The soft trunk reinvents the House’s trunk-making heritage and remains a staple piece in the men’s collection. Additionally Abloh looked to celebrate the brand’s iconic history and legacy, producing unique bags in the brand’s signature monogram. The most notable, and sure to be an instant hit, is called the Milk Box, and it’s inspired by the Mini Noé. It features a vertical, structured shape and a cool gold chain pin closure. Take a look at the bags in the slideshow below or shop now via Louis Vuitton.

I really don’t understand this designer or his vision for LV

Wendy

What is everyone’s thought on the milk box? I liked the uniqueness of this bag. Just curious on how others received the design.

I like it!

That shape of the Milk Box is odd in an LV Ellipse sort of way, getting in and out is a bit clunky, but the aesthetic is fun. I am considering the Saumur Messenger PM, updated, sleeker than the original, definitely on my list.

Love the colorblocked epi.

These bags are awful. Kim Jones is greatly missed. I hope a new designer is brought in soon.

couldn’t agree more

Love Virgil. Love what he’s doing at LV. He’s brought in a new, fresh aesthetic to the brand. When I was in the boutique recently, I liked that there was something for everyone. Virgil definitely has brought a new clientele with his designs while LV still has classics for their longtime customers. His designs always sell out. LV did good with his hire. I look forward to seeing more from him.

Love VA??? Hello have you ever checked your brain dude? His asshole and made LV for bloody BLACK and people who don’t understand about history of brand.
Wake up dude.

Was just showing my son this collection and looked at my comment. First of all, I’m not a dude. Second of all, if only BLACK people purchased his designs, Virgil would have been gone a long time ago. Black people are only 12% of the population here in America. The number goes down even further for those who have the purchasing power to be loyal customers. Modern luxury. WAKE UP.

I study the business of fashion so I do understand the brand and its history. However, in order to make money AND stay relevant, you have to keep things fresh and forward thinking to attract new customers while still having the classics around to keep existing clientele. It is working at Dior, Gucci, Burberry, Fendi, Prada, and Bottega Veneta just to name a few.

I hope that I did not use too many big words or concepts. I’m a college educated adult, and I use grown-up language as opposed to writing like a middle schooler.

To those who are wondering, this is a racist comment, but I’m not going to stoop to Mick’s level.

The Cabas Voyage is definitely a welcomed and fresh approach to a very functional piece for someone who may not be in the market for the ‘made-for-millennials’ styles which, by the way, are wonderful. The younger set wants, needs and enjoys modern, spirited styles that reflect their energy, youth and creativity and if I were younger, I would have my eye on them! Thanks for contributing, FashionableLena!

Yeah this comment is 100 percent racist. Full ~YIKES~

Luckily, this comment is so poorly written I can’t tell if it’s racist or not? Care to clarify what you were trying to say?

The Cabas Voyage is quite nice. I also like the color blocking Epi bags. That’s very “classic LV from the 90s.” But overall, I am unimpressed by VA.

Honestly, I wish Virgil could do some “women’s” pieces. He does such exciting stuff with the traditional LV pattern, it feels fresh and I want it. I bought a men’s wallet in that hot yellow color of last spring but I want a bag that won’t dwarf my body in his exciting styles.
