Saint Laurent’s Newest Bags Are An Ode to America

But do you love them or would you leave them?

It’s part of my job to be aware of what our favorite handbag brands are doing. Sometimes this means I’m reviewing collections in advance of them hitting stores, but other times it means I’m constantly scrolling through new arrivals to see what’s coming in and what’s selling out. Many times this gets me—and my wallet—into trouble as I see something and immediately decide that I must have it. However this time around I was checking out Saint Laurent’s latest handbag drops and I stopped dead in my tracks with confusion as I thought ‘what is that?!’

It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s flying flag? Nope it’s just the Saint Laurent Medium College Bag in American Flag Patchwork. You’re not seeing stars my friends your seeing straight, Saint Laurent’s newest bags are giving us some serious Americana vibes, but I’m not quite sure how I feel about it. Looks wise, it takes a certain person to be able to make a bag like this work. However, all looks aside carrying an American flag bag makes a bold statement at a time when America is politically divided. All politics aside, I’m still not quite convinced that I’d want to carry an American Flag in the crook of my arm. If you’re into it though you can pick one up for yourself via Saint Laurent for $2,590.

While I’m pretty dead set that I’d like to leave the flag bag behind, I’m a little more into this Saint Laurent Kate Bag in Embroidered Canvas. This bag gives off an Americana Vibe too, but it’s much more understated than the flag bag which basically screams America. This bag is fun and I would love to wear it all spring and summer long with white sneakers, jeans and striped tops! I’m dreaming warm thoughts just by looking at this bag so I’d definitely say I love it. If you’re into this one too you can snag it, and go ahead—dream of all the ways you’ll wear it this summer, for $1,750 via Saint Laurent.

What about you PurseBloggers? Are you loving both, leaving both, or are you into just one? I would say to let us know below in the comments, but I know you will!

OMG. Why?!

Jame

I’d get the Old Navy version….

I love loud, graphic styles and would totally wear that American flag bag out to a day-drinking BBQ or some other fun, casual environment. But $2600! For a cotton bag!? At least make it out of leather if you’re going to charge those prices…agreed that you can find something comparable at Old Navy and the like for $40.

Where’s that person that got offended I said most designers are catering to a younger crowd?! This is what I’m talking about lol.

I am the queen of the understated bag. So I can hardly believe what I am going say, but I like them. God bless America. I can’t help myself. They’re overpriced and loud, but there’s also something endearing about them. I envision carrying one to a Cowboys game. That probably speaks volumes in and of itself….. But they speak to me, and they say “classy patriotism”

Except that NFL games do not let you bring in any bag that is not transparent… 🙁

Heather Tweedy

Completely agree! I really like them. I think that I’d only be able to wear them to a BBQ and it’s definitely Instagram bait, but I like them.

Kenzie

You said it all at “Instagram bait.” These are eye-roll worthy.

I miss Amanda’s writings.

We all miss Amanda dearly! She is an amazing writer and we were lucky to have her for so long 🙂

Seriously. And Kaitlin should run all her posts by another PurseBlog editor before publishing.

I’m late to respond but shared this on another post – I’ve been on maternity leave (I was going to use quotes around it because it’s hard to be on maternity leave in a company you own that is a very small business), which means Kaitlin has taken on my, Vlad’s and her own roles as well. It’s not easy in a company this size to take a good amount of time off without there being an impact. Of course mistakes will happen, but we always work to do our best and will continue to work to do better 🙂

Master Green

Totally indifferent to these bags. They would be more interesting without the desperate YSL logo.

We’re considering a trip to Tokyo for the Olympics next summer. I’ll have to keep this in mind!
