As far as collaborations go, this one’s gone to the cats and dogs (but not in a bad way, in a good way!) No really—if you love cats, dogs and Louis Vuitton, this collaboration may be just what you’re looking for. Furthermore, if you are familiar with Grace Coddington, who is the former creative director at large of American Vogue magazine, and creator of some of the most impactful and dramatic photoshoots than you’ll really love this collaboration. Fact is, if you know fashion you know Grace Coddington.
Coddington recently introduced a new series in which she interviews celebs, aptly named Face to Grace. In this six part series she interviews Nicolas Ghesquière and it should come as no major surprise but a delight to see that for Louis Vuitton’s Cruise 2019 Collection the pair collaborated on a collection, Louis Vuitton x Grace Coddington, showcasing Grace’s Persian cats, Pumpkin and Blanket, alongside Nicolas’s dog, Leon.
The animals adorned on each item in this capsule collection were drawn by Grace and they’re an ode to Grace’s iconic style, right down to her red hair, which is depicted by orange monograms. Louis Vuitton has aptly named this new chapter in it’s storied history of collaborations: the Catogram.
As for the products, bags, small leather goods, shoes, and RTW are all included with special touches from Grace Coddington. I really like this collaboration and I’m not a cat person. I’m allergic, so I’m naturally sort of turned off by cats because they bring on my asthma. But these items are whimsical and fun, and I could easily see them becoming both conversational and collector’s pieces.
The unique and cool thing about Louis Vuitton is that they continue to offer new collections and collaborations to delight their fans. Not every collection is on a Louis Vuitton lovers lust-list, but typically there’s a collection that speaks to your soul and Louis Vuitton banks on that.
To celebrate this collaboration, Louis Vuitton has a pop-up shop running until November 12th, which carries the collection in its entirety along with products that are exclusive to NYC. Visit the pop-up at 3 Ninth Avenue, NYC 10014 or shop the collection online here.
I’m not a cat person myself, but I love cute cat motifs and this is def in the cute, quaint basket.
I’m a big Grace Coddington fan. So I wanted to like this collab. I really did. But to my eye, it looked kitschy. Prediction: while a lot of LV is classic, this will be out-of-date in 6 months.
This doesn’t appear to be Grace’s style. Not a fan.
I am also surprised that this is what she came up with, together, with LV…
I’m not a fan of the cats and dogs on the LV handbags because I always saw handbags to be classy and they stand alone from all other handbags.
The hat is cute, but I’m reluctant to go cat crazy.
Omg……terrible and worst collaboration piece! And why with Grace? Not fun of the cats nor Zombie like awful dog. Again LV is asking for the stupid price for such terrible collections.
Big NO!
Dumb. This is all they came up with? I could do better.
This looks like a profitable accident if that makes sense. Doodling in an important meeting that was noticed and liked by a few people that went over well..I love this brand but I’m not a fan of this.
How can Louis Vuitton keep getting it wrong again and again
Barely have we gotten over the Jeff Koons nightmare and here they deliver another terrible collaboration with Grace!
I am sure the youtube and instagram blogger brigade will work hard to sell this pos
Absolutely fu**ing not. No. Nope. Hideous. Looks outdated before it’s release. That’s hard to do….
Not my cup of tea in terms of design. Too kiddish. But a quick look at the LV forum shows how popular this collection already is. Nevertheless, it’s cool that they’re bringing back the Cruiser bag. I m all for classic LV pieces.
I really miss Marc Jacobs at the helm. His collabs were incredible, e.g., Murakami, Stephen Sprouse, Yayoi Kusama, This looks like children’s drawings of cats and dogs on expensive leather goods. Takashi Murakmai’s Japanese anime is amazing, but this, no thanks. And it would be great if Louis Vuitton did a Sanrio collaboration – now I would definitely go for that because of my lvoe for Japanese anime.
Great article! Would you mind if we publish it in our blog, at http://www.bag-selection.ch, a premium leather bags online shop, based in Zurich, Switzerland? I would be so very happy to present your article to our clients, of course with credits and link to your page.
LV’s target demographic seems to be getting younger and younger. Any time soon, we might see an LV Monogram pacifier and rattle set.
