Even if you’re new to high-end accessories, the Louis Vuitton Alma Bag probably looks familiar to you. Not only is it one of LV’s icons, but its signature domed shape is one of the most important designs in modern handbag history. The day version of the Alma as we know it was first commissioned from Vuitton by Coco Chanel as a one-off piece based on the larger travel bag of a similar shape, and soon after the Alma handbag went into production in the 1930s.

Since then, Louis Vuitton has made countless versions, sizes, colors and structures of the Alma, which can make it a little difficult to tell what’s currently available and how much it costs. Below, we’ve assembled Louis Vuitton’s lineup of currently available bags, including size comparisons, price information, modeling shots and the materials you can commonly expect to find.

It would be extremely helpful if you would include the vintage/now discontinued Alma GM and/or the Alma Travel Bag, in Monogram Canvas.

First, this highly coveted xl large size was rare even when it was in production and now that it has been long discontinued, the correct information/style details are as difficult to find as the bags themselves.

Second, the style names of “Alma GM” and “Alma Travel Bag” are misused, misapplied, mixed-up, and as a result, have generally created a flood of misinformation.

Third, at this time I cannot determine whether the largest size bag ever produced in the Alma collection was actually named the “Alma GM” or if it was named the “Alma Travel Bag”. That also means I cannot determine if there was actually an “Alma GM” hand/shoulder bag and then an even larger travel version, possibly named the “Alma Travel Bag”. Furthermore, if there was indeed an “Alma GM” and a larger travel-sized Alma bag, was the name “Alma Travel Bag” or was it something different? (Such as the Alize, Alize 24 Heures, Alize 1 Poche, Alize 2 Poches, Alize 3 Poches, etc..)

Just trying to find the proper dimensions for the gorgeous and roomy luggage version of the Alma, I found multiple style names being used (some invented, some misapplied, and some correct) as well as dimensions that varied by nearly 5 inches for what was allegedly the exact same bag.

As a lover of the more rare Louis Vuitton Classic Monogram Luggage pieces, such as the Sac Sport, Alize w/Garment Bag, and the Alma GM &/or Alma Travel Bag, I would be extremely grateful for a proper rundown of the Alma GM/Alma Travel Bag, to confirm if these style names were ever actually different versions or just colloquial names, and to have all the details along with the correct dimensions for each.

Can anyone help with this?
