Is This Louis Vuitton’s Next Monogram Hit?

Hang On, a new viral must-have is loading...

Introducing the Louis Vuitton Hang On Bag

In case you forgot, we’re here to remind you that Louis Vuitton Monogram is SO back.

Created by Louis Vuitton’s son, George, in 1896, Louis Vuitton’s iconic Monogram logo canvas is one of the most widely recognized logos in the world. Not only is it an internationally known symbol of luxury fashion, but it is also known to be one of the most durable materials, created for use on trunks meant for travel.

The motif is a true enigma, a rarity that remains simultaneously timeless and of the moment. It continues to stand the test of time, and in 2025, there is no better time to be a lover of LV Monogram.

Introducing the Louis Vuitton Hang On Bag

Truly a classic that everyone should own, while iconic shapes like the Speedy and the Alma return to the forefront of fashion, the Maison also continues to expand its Monogram offerings, and today we’re here with the latest.

Dipping into its archives yet again for inspiration, Louis Vuitton revisits the Cité bag with its newest addition to the LV Monogram family. While the Cité dates back to the 80s, the Hang On is of the moment with its elongated east/west body and long shoulder straps.

The silhouette of the original remains, updated with modern touches like thinner straps that extend onto the body of the bag for a nice stylistic touch. Adding to the bag’s vintage-yet-contemporary appeal is a luggage tag and gold-tone lock—tying in Louis Vuitton’s roots in travel.

The Details: What Fits

The east/west trend continues to boom, and as LV Monogram further returns to widespread popularity, this bag feels fresh enough to warrant a second look, but classic enough that it’s not too far off a trend piece.

It’s straps are adjustable and while the interior is small, it would hold all of my daily necessities—a card case, iPhone, keys and a lippy (overall dimensions are 10.2″ x 4.5″ x 2.6″).

I wish we could, for once, get just a simple and cute monogram bag without name tags and oversized lockits. it’s so clean, but then they felt the need to put this D-ring right front and center and hang something of it

Hervé

100% agree with you! For some reason, women are obsessed with locks and name tags… sigh. And to be honest it works on certain bags but not all of them. This one, for example, would have been really cute without all this extra stuff.

Annie

Not true that “women are obsessed with locks and name tags”. However, I agree that this bag is cute without it.

Hervé

You would be surprised by the number of women who walk everyday in the store and ask to buy a luggage tag to add to their [fill in the blank].

The luggage tag + lock combo is awful

Jane Doe

No.

Natasha

So sick of LV monogram.

Stewie Griffin

Love it or hate it, it’s a timeless part of luxury luggage and leather goods history.

Natasha

I agree but it just doesn’t seem luxurious when it’s so ubiquitous.

Simone

Iphones and Macbook are a luxury and yet they are everywhere too.

Susan

It’s called greedy monogram

People have to understand that the locks and luggage tags are an Ode to their luggage heritage. Which had luggage tags and locks. The speedy is a smaller keepall. Which is a travel bag. Which needs a lock. The Alma was made for Gabrielle Chanel to travel. The Birkin is just a smaller HAC. Jane didn’t have a whole bag made after her. Just a smaller version like they did with the keepall and Audrey Hepburn.

if you look at older bags you will find that most of them did in fact not come with a nametag. what you will notice however, is that a hotstamped item may not be returned or exchanged.
it’s not as though all bags in the past came with nametags. and the speedy was a travel bag in the sense that it was foldable and could be stored in a suitcase. the locks on older bags also were positioned logically to securely close a bag. this lockit has no actual function. it is the randomness that makes it ugly. i think everybody has heard enough about the trunk maker louis vuitton, thank you very much. the monogram by itself is steeped in history already, there is really no need to throw every other characteristc thing about the brand on that bag. people have to understand that this is lazy design to force storytelling on a bag that could’ve done without it. ten years ago, every bag had a history and story about it that you could tell. now, it is only a bag with artefacts hanging off it, rather than the bag itself telling a story.

Brigitte

Lovely bag! However it would be better without the luggage tag and lock. They feel unnecessary.

The lock and name tag look detachable. You can use the name tag and lock on another piece, or attach another charm in its place.
The real question, to me, anyway, is how much they would’ve charged for the bag, sans lock and name tag.

When I see someone with a monogram bag I feel that lack any personal style sensibility

Sandra

Wow you sure are a judgmental person. Let people wear whatever they want and mind your own business. Someone is looking at you and thinking you have no sense of style either.

Lisa

I bought this bag and had regret the minute that I walked out of the store. The bag itself is lovely however, I was so disappointed in the look and feel of the canvas. It actually feels like it is getting thinner than it has ever been. Once I got the bag home and played around with all the items that I would carry in it, I realized that I would need at least an MM size which my SA advised they would likely not be releasing in the near future. So, I decided to source and purchase a gorgeous Cite MM bag in like new condition. I paid $1,100 and the canvas and leather are dreamy and feel substantiative. The size of the bag is perfection and I love it. The new “Hang On” version went back to LV and my SA was truly happy that I was able to find the Cite bag in the perfect size. I will definitely be keeping her close by as she is the best SA I have had yet.
