In hindsight, perhaps last season’s demure, ladylike Louis Vuitton show should have tipped us off that Louis Vuitton Spring 2011 would be a wild, colorful ride through safari and Asian kitsch. Creative director Marc Jacobs doesn’t like to go in any one direction for more than a few moments at a time, and a collection with a strong point of view is always a good indication that the next collection will be just as strong, but in the opposite direction.
Instead of last season’s dozens of neutral variations on the classic Speedy theme, Vuitton gave us loud, colorblocked clutches and small shoulder bags that screamed in artfully clashing technicolor. Logos were visible (this is Louis Vuitton, after all), but other than a few clutches that proclaimed VUITTON in all capitals, the famous monogram was less obtrusive than it usually is in the average LV collection. These bags will surely leave some heads shaking, particularly among clients who saw Fall 2010 as a possible return to the brand’s roots, but they’re exactly on trend and so cheerful that I can’t help but like them.
i love #45!
A few of them are cool, but why does this bring to mind Coach’s Poppy collection? Not feelin it.
Why is everything so small???
I agree with Ali. Where are the big bags? I do have to say that I’m loving #34, #45 and #48. But still, no big bags?
I like very few of them. I agree with Kristen, it reminds me a lot of Coach Poppy collection. Some of them even look like they were made in an arts and crafts class 🙁
Oh, disappointing, I don’t like any of them.
My favs are purses #1 and #40
i also like the 40 ! thats the only one i think nice.
are there images of the entire outfits? it seems that some of these bags would make more sense if we see the whole outfit.
Vogue.com has the full show, but we usually focus on the bags. Since the majority of consumers aren’t going to buy the entire outfit, I think it’s important that the bags work both in and out of context.
Hello Amanda,
I would like to ask you a question.
I´m doing a fashion blog. And I was wondering if you need a special permission to post the photos of Vogue.com and Style.com?
I would give them the credit (Photos from Style.com for example).
Thanks!!
Like #45 but no big purses… They need to expand on their totally leather line.
Only 1 that I kinda like.
I usually love quite a few from LV.
I like #28, but I don’t love it.
Some of these are nice, but I do miss the ladylike, 1950’s feel of last season’s handbags. Ah well, fashion never stays in one place for long…

Okay. We have seen alot of bags on this blog from many different designers. However, is no one doing a new larger bags other than the designers on purse blog saavy.
An average woman can’t live on clutches alone. I have been disappointed with most of the designer offerings. Oh well, I guess that it’s back to Coach and Dooney.
Small bags tend to play better in runway shows because of the movement involved, and I think that weighs heavily on the reason that we see an inordinate amount of them in these first looks at new collections. I think we’ll see plenty of larger bags once the collections debut at retail. Many of the designers over at the PB Savvy price point don’t do moving shows or make as many bags overall (therefore not as many small bags), so we tend to see more workhorse purses from them in the early stages. That’s my theory, anyway.
I hope this means they’ll return to having more color in the regular collections as well – I’ve been buying 90s epi bags for a while now because they’re bright and awesome, while most of what’s been in the store (not from the seasonal collections) has been muted.
how about combining these little beauties with your larger everday bag (also the small colourful Miu Miu bags), could be a trend. Like developing from one season into the next…
Well, am still in shock mode after I saw LV`s SS 2011 collection last night….it is horrible and tasteless, and so camp!!! I didnt like any of it and very much so disappointed by this latest collection. I do understand the story behind this SS 2011 collection, but I found it quite awful design and such bad taste!!!!
I feel that the collection is from furniture fabrics….summer collection was wow but now so disappointing!!!!
Love these bags!!! I have to have one! My favorite are 18, 29, 38 and 45!!
This SS collection has made me quite sad and am so disappointing. And must stress that I hate to see Vuitton in big print with terrible colour mix!!!! I like to have designer”s bag doesnt have such big name print. Very bad collection really.
Pioneer brand Balenciaga bag life, and a simple no good. Balenciaga Motorcycle bags, handsome, personality; Balenciaga Giant City Handbags bold and brilliant; Balenciaga Giant Work Handbags simple and practical; This is the magic of fashion pioneer!
Definitely very colorful! I like the purple one with the flowers and also the pink one! (ipad)
No no and no!!
i like the color options…but none of the shapes/styles really stand out for me (ipad)
These look like ” one outfit” bags, nothing that you could wear daily with any type of convenience or function.
lil funky, but im gonna stick with the classic lv collection. (ipad)
Yes purple is back. (ipad)
OMG!! THESE BAGS ARE HORRIBLE!!! WHAT THE HELL HAPPENDED?? IS THE ECONOMY THAT BAG THAT LV HAD TO RESORT TO THESE LITTLE CLUTCHES? SERIOUSLY AS A WOMAN YOU NEED A BIGGER BAG TO HOLD YOUR EVERYDAY NECESSITIES… PLEASE I BEG YOU LV WITHDRAW ALL OF THESE HORRIFIC IMAGES AND POST THE REAL 2011 COLLECTION.. I AM SO DISSAPOINTED.. THIS IS A BIG NO-NO … I WOULD RATHER WEAR A ISSAC MIZRAHI TARGET COLLECTION THAN THESE BAGS.. AND WHATS WITH THE HUGE LOGO “VUITTON” BAGS? SO GHETTO….
I Love 90% of these bags #11 is one of my favs. A lot of detail in each bag. This is what I call a creative mind.
I love almost all of these! (ipad)
Oh, come on…. Where are the classic bags? And the colour… It’s too much
I must say that I am a little disappointed. I think we are all wondering where the bigger bags are. Where am I going with these little clutches??? I definitely need more space. Cute colors though. I hope the bigger collection to this is around the corner.
they must be joking !!!! very disappointed.. where is the classy feeling of LV?? fake products can do much better than these… this is not the high fashion… so so sad.. 🙁
I am loving these! So adorable! I am really into all the blue and the neon pinks! Kinda reminds me of the Teen Vogue and Vogue Spring 2010. Great post! Love it!!!!
This collection is very crazy…… Like omg!!!!!!!!!! They killed it
