Mother’s Day is this Sunday, and although family-oriented holidays can be tricky (if not downright disastrous) for lots of people, everyone probably has one or two fictional, televised mothers for whom they have plenty of unfussy affection. That’s no less true for people with strong maternal relationships in real life; entertainment and the stories it tells can have profound effects on our ideas about what it means to be a mom and to love your own.
