Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week New York: Spring 2012 Tadashi Shoji

All photos via WWD.com

As I sat watching the looks from Tadashi Shoji Spring 2012 waft by (and they definitely wafted, just look at them), I couldn’t get the phrase “garden wedding” out of my head. Shoji’s collection isn’t bridal, it’s ready-to-wear, but I can’t help but think that there are wonderful spring wedding frocks in this set of dresses for everyone from brides to bridesmaids to guests.

I doubt that Shoji would balk at the suggestion, because he surely knew that doing a collection full of floor-length gowns in light neutrals and cocktail-length dresses in spring brights and prints would call to mind April nuptials in lush, verdant surroundings. If you know someone who’s getting married next year, take note of this collection. Even more so if you’re a slightly nontraditional bride; the white, nude and pale silver dresses aren’t classic bridal, but they’d be perfect for a modern woman. Highlights, as always, are after the jump.

The gown on the right in the feature pic is beautiful! I would definitely fancy wearing that at my wedding.

The first few looks were beautiful and reminded me of inverted tulips and flower stems. Just the way the gradient dye job was administered gave these looks a very garden-like feel. But I did not care for any of the pleated lace looks (at least that what it looks like on my computer).

And I love the bumble bee dress.

So light and feminine – reaallly love this collection

The green striped dress is gorgeous! Reminds me of the pink Oscar de la Renta dress that Carrie got from Aleksandr Petrovsky in Sex and the City!

I love non-traditional bridal dresses, as long as they don’t look like something from outer space. My own wedding dress was a red floral silk dress that I wore with red patent Stuart Weitzman peep toe pumps. I like the dresses shown here.

Lorie

Loved everything. So feminine and beautiful.

LOVE everything, too. But that striped dress in the middle?
Luscious beyond words!

Jackie

Oh my gosh… that striped floor length dress makes her look like a giantess! Stripes can really do things to one’s body!

Rebecca

I must own that striped dress.
