Maria Grazia Chiuri presented her fall 2021 collection for Dior yesterday at the beautiful Chateau Versailles in France. A stunning stage that was nothing short of a twisted dream, the historical palace was the perfect backdrop for this fairytale-inspired collection, conveying a mystical fantasy world filled with symbolism.
Versailles’ Hall of Mirrors distorts into dark, twisted version of itself, setting the stage for Grazia Chiuri’s exploration of the world of fantasy. Fashion is turned upside down, blurring the lines between fiction and reality. Described as a figment of reinvention, this exploration isn’t about escapism, rather it serves as a question and a challenge.
This mystical fairytale world serves as the starting point for Dior’s fall 2021 collection, playing with the idea of sweetness with a twist, tapping into classic fairytales like ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ and ‘Alice in Wonderland’ for inspiration. There are black dresses with puff sleeves and pinafore detailing and there’s even a hooded red cape. The collection as a whole embraces reinvented, feminine magic, and it’s all about the details in this stunning presentation.
As for the bags, there were a few new versions of fan favorite bags such as the Book Tote, Lady Dior, Bobby and the 30 Montaigne. The existing, but more under-the-radar, St. Honoré Tote appears to be a big push in this new collection, appearing throughout in stunning Dior Cannage as well as a fun leopard print. Though the collection overall was an ode to the post-pandemic mindset of a longing for the beautiful and the grand, the bags appeared to take a backseat in place of the RTW which proved to be the focal point. The collection reminded me of Suspiria – hauntingly beautiful.
Yes, I feel the same!
Kinda over MGC & have been awhile. I miss the opulence, sensuality and romanticism of the non-streetwear Dior. Yet we seem to get season after season of uninspired non-innovative wool houndstooth & plaid masculine separates and $5k fabric bags with CHRISTIAN DIOR emblazoned on the front. Please please please make the book tote go away already! I love the company & SA but find less and less that inspires me to spend $$ there.
I agree. It is pure laziness. Still remember the cringe see-thru dress with “Christian Dior” underwear straps.
For a second I thought this was the men’s Collection – its unimaginative and boring and who wants these velvet bags?
Velvet bags…..AGAIN! 3rd fall in a row! And with the big logo across the front…costing the same as the leather counterparts no less.
But how else do you expect “influencers” to splash logos all about 😉
???
I mean… It’s fine… but also super boring for a brand that used to be constantly innovative.
I don’t understand why anyone would want to wear the Book Tote unless they are desperate to let aliens hovering above the stratosphere know that they own a Dior bag… ?
I don’t mind a bag being recognizable by a buckle or something, I don’t NEED super-subtlety, nor do I scoff at LV canvas bags or anything, even if they’re not for me. And the Book Tote I thought was intricate enough that, again, if not for me, I appreciated the artwork part of it.
But good lord, Dior, even the Lady has to have a giant red stamp on it? Are you THAT out of ideas?
I actually really like #5! It looks feminine and elegant! Is #2 the Bobby in leather? It’s hard to see since the pix is dark, but it looks cute.
Meh, kind of boring, the bags sort of need the big CD because without them they’re not very interesting. Not saying I love the big logo but it is what it is. I agree though I think MGC needs to come up with some new ideas. I’m bored of everything she’s done, even the new stuff looks old as soon as it comes out.
