Just when I thought we would have a nice, easy end to the summer, Chanel quietly snuck in a price increase.
It was a price increase that was not expected, with many thinking that Chanel would leave its prices alone for the remainder of the year. But today, we woke up to the news that the 2025 Chanel Price Increase is here.
With the strong Euro, EU prices remain the same.
However, the US, which thought we were being spared by price increases as the luxury world continues to find its footing with instability in purchasing and growth, woke up to a shock.
Classic bags increased by $500, and others were also quietly given a price increase.
These are the new 2025 Chanel Bag prices
Classic Bags | New Price | Old Price | % Increase |
Chanel Classic Mini Square Flap Bag | $5,200 | $5,000 | 4% |
Chanel Classic Mini Rectangular Flap Bag | $5,400 | $5,200 | 3.8% |

Why Chanel Keeps Raising Prices, Even After Sales Decline
The recent 15% tariff on European luxury imports has added new strain to an already pressured industry. While luxury brands like Chanel, Louis Vuitton, and Dior avoided the harsher 30% tariffs initially threatened, the new duties still pose a significant challenge amid weakening consumer demand and reduced pricing flexibility.
On paper, increasing prices after a drop in sales seems counterintuitive.
But Chanel isn’t operating on a traditional retail playbook. Instead, it’s following a long-term strategy of brand elevation, one that aligns it more with ultra-exclusive houses like Hermès than with other fashion maisons.
In fact, Chanel is leading the charge and writing the playbook regarding luxury bag price increases.
Even as sales in some regions (notably the U.S.) have slowed and consumer demand softens, Chanel appears to be doubling down on scarcity and prestige.
Does anyone care anymore? Stopped buying in 2022 and won’t be going back.
Quality is so far gone that it’s pre-loved, pre-2017 or nothing for me.
Is it me? I see pre loved as almost same, except for bags no one wants.
I have read this before but haven’t had this issue. The quality has been remarkable with every bag I have purchased. I do stick with classics, I heard seasonal bags may be more prone to quality issues. I agree the increases are out of hand at this point, I still love my Chanel.
Same. I haven’t experienced any quality issues with my newer bags. Same as my bags from the 90s.
Ask yourself: Would I purchase this item at this price point if it didn’t have a Chanel logo on it? If the answer is no, then you’re just falling victim to a giant marketing machine.
“345% price increase in 15 years” seriously. Welp, makes all my vintage and used that much more valuable.
Same.. I’m looking at the prices now and thinking to myself – no effin way. I purchased my med flap back in mid 2000s and paid 2k for it.
Same, I bought a jumbo flap paid $4800 and got back $750 in VAT!
Most people I know in the US can’t afford grocery, rent, and regular bills despite working two jobs. Chanel prices are completely irrelevant.
Chanel is not supposed to be for everyone it is high end luxury. Fashion is not democratic.
unpopular opinion, but luxury brands were never intended for everyone and the masses. social media just gave the masses a glimpse of what a luxury lifestlye entails and sadly, people imo are trying to depict that.
if people can’t afford rent and groceries for their family, which is unfortunate, then those individuals prob don’t really care about Chanel and definitely not their price increases; and truthfully, Chanel doesn’t really care about them.
I find your comment irrelevant since they don’t really intersect.
The economics of luxury retail is that they need to give the illusion the brand is hard to reach while also selling key rings, cosmetics, and cardholders to the masses so that they can make as much money as possible. Therefore, even people with lower incomes are potentially the target of luxury brands’ marketing.
Even people like me who have a comfortable income find Chanel prices completely disconnected from reality. You pay for the label. The bags themselves are nice but not any nicer than a $500 bag. I’ll keep enjoying the bags I own, but I won’t shop Chanel anymore. I can only carry one bag at a time!
Exactly!!
Anyone else remembers this joyfully delusional Maga propaganda article by former Notoriouspink a few months ago?
Well now, this is called reality kicking in…
Why are you on a fashion site insulting Americans. I find it really gross. Whether MAGA or not fashion is for everyone. You also realize that MAGA swept the election so I would assume there are many on here that voted for him. Divisive comments don’t belong here. I come on for the beautiful bags and fashion commentary not someones political beliefs or insults.
What are you referring to?
I must’ve spent over $300k between 2022-2024. I’m done! You can only have so many classic flaps in different sizes and colors. The fatigue is so real. Even RTW seems so meh now. I’ve been looking more into Celine RTW now that Michael Rider is heading the house.
Sales are down and they still keep increasing prices. Even the ultra wealthy will not pay such ridiculous prices anymore , they aren’t stupid!
I sold Chanel handbags from 2014 up until 2021. The quality has changed. The leathers are harder, and more dull. They are definitely not worth $12500. You can’t push scarcity when you have six handbag collections a year. And how many adult women want to walk around with a star shaped or heart bag? Don’t get me started on the costume jewelry decline. Some of it is the same quality you’d find at the bottom of a Cracker Jack box. You have to be VERY discerning these days when buying Chanel, IF you still want it. People who do still want it, I believe, are caught up in the name and not paying close attention to what they are purchasing. Overall it’s just extremely boring, repetitive and their hard leathers just aren’t worth the price. And you’d be hard/ pressed to find someone who has sold Chanel for any period of time who doesn’t 100% agree with me. We all talk to each other and have been saying this for a while.
Stopped buying years ago when the price increases started to get ridiculous. Now they are simply obscene. Not worth it at all.
Poor quality definitely doesn’t justify these price increases. Why the repeat of heart bags? When certain bag retail prices went to 4 to 5 thousand dollars started to chip and crack I lost interest in this vendor.
I wonder if the WOC price was increased.
PurseBop also published a list and their list shows that the WOC increased from $3,550 to $3,700 for the classic. Chanel 19 WOC increased from $4,100 to $4,300, and the Boy WOC from $3,425 to $3,575.
Thank you for posting this!!!!!!! I was thinking of buying a WOC. Not sure. For that price I can buy a full sized LV handbag!!!!!
I’m selling my beige classic wallet on chain for 2022 price + Las Vegas tax. If interested please contact me. I have all original packaging, price tag, and receipt. I’m always reaching for my black purses and just can’t seem to pull off a beige bag.
Hermes Prices. Dollarama Quality. Yes good playbook model Chanel!!
The gospel according to Gabrielle.

Why does everyone say “the quality is not there or the same?! “ as someone who’s purchased a boy bag back in 2013 for $3k to another in 2020 for $5k to my last one in April of 2025 for $7k. I have seen the evolution in quality along the increase in this bag. The boy when through size changes and structure changes and most importantly fabric interior (which I hated) to leather interior. From sticker codes to plaques with laser codes and micro chips. I don’t mind the increase if I see some changes hence why I keep coming back. Yes they aren’t great but it also tells me that my 3k bag is now worth a lot more even if I never part with it. It’s not a great feeling to buy a bag that devalues or doesn’t hold value. Chanel is a major player in the luxury goods industry and you shouldn’t compare it to the likes of HERMES. As they one 1 piece of leather to make one bag with no real details aside metal clamps.
