Gigi Hadid Raises an Important Question: Why Carry a Purse When You Could Instead Carry Champagne

Why didn't we think of this

A lot happens during New York Fashion Week and a lot of it is, frankly, not all that interesting, especially if your primary connection to the fashion industry is accessories. There are a few notable bag brands that show during NYFW, but most of the heavy-hitters debut their collections during Milan and Paris, so those are the events that really turn our heads. I still keep an eye on what transpires at NYFW, though, and thank God I do—otherwise, I might have missed the most fashionable BYOB moment of our times.

Earlier this week at Business of Fashion’s BoF 500 party, celebrating the fashion industry’s biggest power players, Gigi Hadid (one of said power players) graced the red carpet in not just a grand, bright yellow Brandon Maxwell jumpsuit, but also a very curious accessory: a top-handled clear acrylic box, inside of which sat one perfect bottle of rosé champagne. The box and bottle were both also from Maxwell.

No phone. No keys. No stray receipts or pen caps or protein bars. Just a bottle of bubbly, because really, if you have that, and you’re at a party, what else is there? You don’t need to go to the bar, you don’t need to locate your friends. You’re a self-contained vessel, with your voluminous jumpsuit and your personal rosé supply. Fashion Week is always kind of a slog, and with the awful, rainy weather we’ve had in New York lately, this season has been especially slogful. You know what implies the carrier’s lack of slog? Swanning into a party with nothing in your hands but rosé.

It also implies you have handlers and security to take care of your personal effects and also, probably, to babysit your personal booze while you go do other things, but that will probably be sold separately. The piece just debuted on Maxwell’s Spring 2018 runway, so we’ll have to wait and see.

Why didn’t I think of this? Fabulous!! (I think I owned that belt in the 70s… and wore it proudly roller skating.)

Minibagfan

Looks heavy! 🙁

Timothy

Tacky

Sparky

Seeing it on this page, taken out of context it looks silly. But it probably looked fine in person at the event.

Belle

Haha it’s funny, and I think fashion should be fun!

Vlaibl

I love it. She’s gorgeous. The bag is so over the top that it’s magical. My only concern is that it looks like the bottom of the outfit got wet. That makes me sad. It’s all so perfect otherwise. Curse you, bad weather!

Supposedly the Vuitton Noe bag was designed specifically to fit 5 bottles of champagne. As soon as I heard that I *had* to have one–and yes, 5 bottles fit perfectly! Not that I often have occasion to tote that much champagne around but that is definitely the sort of person I would love to be: have champagne, will travel, no need for anything else!

Kenzie

Sounds way too heavy to carry by hand!

kkonaroll

lol she looks 40.

Kenzie

She does, but is she even 21-years-old yet?
