Last September, former Givenchy powerhouse designer Riccardo Tisci made his runway debut at Burberry. Immediately it was apparent that big changes were afoot at the iconic British brand. As Burberry aimed to modernize and reach a larger consumer base, Tisci looked to his work at Givenchy and implemented elements that worked into his designs for Burberry.
To start, Tisci designed and debuted a brand new logo, which pays homage to Burberry’s founder Thomas Burberry. In addition to introducing a new logo hardware, Tisci dove deep into the logo trend, plastering the new ‘TB’ monogram on everything from belt bags to tracksuits. Though some fans questioned if this move towards a younger, more street-esque Burberry was the right move, the numbers don’t lie. After Tisci’s appointment as Creative Director, Burberry jumped 3 spots into the top 10 luxury players in the Lyst Index, which measures the popularity of brands based on sales and other data.
For Spring 2020, Burberry focused largely on its newest shoulder bag, the Lola, showcasing new iterations of the bag. New versions included a metallic silver belt bag as well novelty versions featuring everything from the Burberry screen print to a summery gingham print, and even a zebra printed Lola Bag. Other notable shapes included a sleek, skinny, structured bag with various versions of the Burberry logo and an interesting (and very minimalistic) hobo bag which taps into the classic Burberry aesthetic. I’ve always been a Burberry fan. Loving the direction to modernize the brand.
I am kind of digging this new collection
LOVE the first bag. I’m not a Burberry fan except for the small Banner bag, but I’m loving Tisci’s direction.
I can’t decide which bags/totes that I like the best! The bag with monkeys; the tote with the large, beautiful “B’s”; the tote with the very large “Burber Establish Horseferry” (or, the smaller more refined bag version), or the silver bag which is a bumbag (literally) with the chain hitting the models booty. Oh, also the small gingham backpack which is perfect for carrying a snack. So many great options! I struggle to choose only one!
LOL!
I see TB and think Tory Burch. Not a fan.
I want to see the clothes
Right? Some of those prints and colors look stunning!
Ugly and tacky: Burberry hasn’t been relevant in years and this logo phase is a sign of desperation.
Wow – I love these. Excited to see them in person!
The bags that didn’t obviously steal their inspiration from Hermes, Chanel, Gucci, Bottega Veneta or even Valentino are ugly! Oh, I forgot: Celine. No thanks. I’d buy the original designers, not these knockoffs.
I live in a warm weather state so I like the first one in canvas. I don’t think that I would purchase it’s though because it would be too fussy to deal with without a strap.
I need more variety to bags. Tired of flap bag silhouette. Just saying.
The two hobo style bags are okay-ish, but I still wouldn’t buy them. Everything else was fairly ugly and just tacky-looking IMO. I haven’t cared for Burberry in years but this collection is going in the wrong direction. I don’t see these flying off the shelves.
