I’m not a beauty guru by any means. In fact, I’m one of those people that claims to know pretty much nothing about makeup, but I do know what works for me and my skin. Sometimes the best recommendation is one you get from a regular person like a close girlfriend or even a stranger on the bathroom lime, not a blogger or a beauty counter employee. I’d like to think of myself as a pretty regular girl. I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve had my makeup professionally done, and though I love looking my best my makeup routine is pretty minimal and the furthest thing from glam. I like a routine that’s simple and won’t take up a lot of time. However I will spend a lot of time on my skincare routine, and that’s the area of the beauty industry that interests me the most. When your skin looks good you not only look good, but you feel good too! Not to mention, great skin means you need to wear less makeup, which I am all for. I’m not big on change, which means I don’t often try new products. It’s been quite a while since my last #PurseBlogBeauty post, but I’m back with 5 new products I’m so glad I tried!
[sc_ic_ad1]Olaplex Hair Perfector No. 3 ($28)
This has made such a difference in my hair that I swear I want to shout it from the rooftops. If I’m being honest I learned about this product from a blogger, but it was not a sponsored recommendation so I was a little more inclined to believe it. Since going completely plant based with my diet this year I’ve noticed my hair has been looking less than stellar. It breaks much more easily than it ever used to, and it’s also been incredibly dry. This hair perfector differs from a mask or a leave in conditioner in that it is a bond builder and uses technology that relinks broken bonds in the hair caused by chemical, heat and other damage. I’ve been using it once a week for the last month and I already see a big difference in how my hair looks and feels!
Murad Skin Perfecting Lotion ($40)
I could go on for days about the issues my skin has been giving me over the last year. I went from having near perfect skin to breaking out like a teenager at the ripe old age of 27. And then, after 4 months of using prescription grade products I finally got my skin back to normal. However my medications left my skin flaky and super dry. This is the third moisturizer I’ve tried since, and though I have to use a pretty large amount it does work well in hydrating my skin without causing me to breakout.
Dr Jart+ Premium Beauty Balm ($39)
I like to wear as little makeup as possible. I don’t like the feeling of thick foundation on my skin, and I’ve never worn liquid foundation. However once my skin starting misbehaving, I needed something that would cover my blemishes. I started using BB cream, and I loved how it would blend nicely in the spots that needed it without requiring me to cover my entire face. Admittedly I purchased this about 6 months ago after doing some research. However because I use so little of my BB cream I only just ran out of my old one (Dior). I love this because it’s incredibly lightweight and it creates the perfect dewy completion without making your skin look overly oily. It contains an anti-aging complex while it also shields the skin from the sun as it’s formulated with SPF.
Hourglass Cosmetics Hidden Corrective Concealer ($34)
Somehow the girl who knows nothing about makeup stumbled upon a cult favorite product. I know this only because I tried 3 different Sephoras to re-buy this last week in my shade (natural), Bloomingdales in SoHo and finally the Hourglass store. Though this is the only product I’ve used from Hourglass Cosmetics I’m anxious to try other products because I cannot say enough great things about this concealer. It lays so nicely on the skin, and it did so even when my skin was dry and unmanageable. I used to be a NARS concealer devotee, and though I was using both for a while I’ve now switched solely to this one. When my skin was still healing from my breakout I had terrible dark spots and an overall uneven tone. This worked wonders for me then, and it still provides the coverage I need now—especially under my eyes.
Nars the Multiple Stick ($39)
There’s nothing better than a product that does double—or triple!—duty, and this stick is just that product. I use this on my cheeks and my brow bone the most, but you can also use this as a lip tint. I like the color ‘Orgasm”, but this summer when I’m a bit tanner I’m going to try one of the bronze tones to give the bridge of my nose and my cheeks that sun kissed glow.
I wish I liked that concealer, I tried, multiple times. It cakes so badly on me. And Olaplex is great, but it’s just a temp fix for your hair. The bonds are not permanent, and for some, hair can become weak, brittle, dry, and breaks over time with continued use. I tried that too, a bunch. It worked for awhile, and then it just….stopped. My hair was so brittle it started breaking off mid-shaft.
I had the same experience with Olaplex. It’s a great idea but not a great long term solution.
I am so bummed!!! I’ve only been using it for a month (1x per week) I’m wondering what will happen with time.
I was going to say “yay, and it’s vegan and cruelty-free too” but if it causes hair to break over time, that’s not good.
