I have an endless array of lipsticks in every shade under the lacquered rainbow, and at one time, not a lip gloss among them–until recently. Lip glosses are the beauty product we all loved back in the day, and the sticky, ultra-shiny goop was once a must-have in the early 2000s. Even lip glosses never left the beauty world, they definitely took a back seat during years of lipstick trendiness, especially with the recent matte lip craze. When you survey new beauty arrivals for the upcoming season, though, it’s clear we’re entering a lip gloss revival.
Long gone are the days of lip gloss so thick and sticky that you can’t stop your hair from getting stuck in a light breeze. Our favorite glosses this season have much improved formulas and won’t feel at all like a throwback to the days of Paris Hilton. Whether you prefer vibrant or subtle lip colors, glosses cover the full spectrum from sweet to vampy. Whatever you pick, these glosses are shiny yet smooth; one of my personal favorites this season, from NARS, is so soft it feels like I’m wearing a lip balm and the color is sheer yet shiny enough to make an impact. Christian Louboutin even jumped in on the trend, with the recently launched Loubilaque.
Below, check out 20 of our favorite ways to indulge lip gloss nostalgia in a totally 2016 way.
I never got on the matte bandwagon so I’m ok with this (and I wore gloss while the matte craze was happening too). Everything old is new again.
I have so many lipglosses already. The chanel ones are my faves. I want a bright pink Nars lipgloss.
Ilia Beauty products are sensational, I’m glad to see this listed here. Most of their ingredients are natural, and they don’t contain any toxic ingredients like aluminum that is in so many lipsticks and glosses. Check it out, they make fantastic products!
Are Christian Louboutin lip glosses worth the splurge? you can buy 3 of the other ones for the price you pay for one of those. Why are they so expensive? Are they really better or you’re just paying for a name and a beautifully designed tube? I don’t mind paying a high price for something that is worth but in this case, is it really worth that much?
I’ve heard that they are very patchy & nothing special. The only thing good about them is the fancy packaging.
I read a review once on a blog and the girl said it was not worth the high price. It did not come to me as a surprise, though.
Boy, do I abhor lipgloss.
I’ve always loved gloss. Urban Decay’s Naked glosses are my personal favorite, as they’re very subdued and pack a ton of moisture.
I’m a lipstick gal. As much as I tried, I just can’t get with lip gloss. It doesn’t last, and I enjoy full coverage.
