Brands dipping into their archives for inspiration has become commonplace, and Balenciaga is taking the notion of what’s old is new again to the next level with its newest release. Debuting this September, Balenciaga unveils its new line of fragrances; its backstory is truly something special.
Inspired by the brand’s many eras, the collection features 10 fragrances, all paying homage to the House’s heritage and iconic DNA. The release comes more than 75 years after Cristóbal Balenciaga introduced Le Dix, the first-ever fragrance from the Maison.
The Rediscovery of Le Dix
The journey to this collection was 15 years in the making, culminating with the discovery of a forgotten treasure after an extensive search through the Maison’s archives to locate an original fragrance sample. Le Dix and the first perfume bottle designed by Cristóbal Balenciaga were found once again.
Though this collection’s launch comes just three weeks before Pierpaolo Piccioli’s runway debut, these fragrances were years in the making, conceptualized by Piccioli’s predecessor, Demna.

The New Era of Balenciaga Fragrance
The fragrances reportedly took three years to develop. They see the return of Le Dix alongside nine other expressive scents, given names like ‘No Comment,’ ‘Extra,’ ‘Cristobal,’ and more. As for the bottle’s design, it is a true archival revival—the original model was scanned so that every last detail, including its logotype, matches.
As for what’s inside, modernity meets heritage, tapping into the House’s DNA while redefining the distinct French art of parfumerie. The collection launched yesterday in select stores and on balenciaga.com and is also celebrated in a brand new Balenciaga Fragrance Store located at the House’s historic address, 10 Avenue George V.
