Double, double toil and trouble; Fire burn, and caldron bubble!! Happy Halloween to the Purse Blog and Purse Forum!!! Today is a fun day, so there will be no bags we talk about, only costumes, tricks, and treats.
Every year the Renaissance fair came to my town and every year I went and ate the largest pesticide infested pickles, watched live Chess, and gnawed on a turkey leg. One year my class took a field trip to the fair and for extra credit we could dress up; of course I dressed up because what kid does not want a 110% in 3rd grade? To top off my outfit I would have needed a perfect bag to carry my coins etc to barter at the market. Perfectly fitting for that era would be the Oscar de la Renta Gilded Suede Clutch which resembles a bag a dame from the Renaissance era would wear. A bit outdated for my taste with its black gathered suede, gold-tone beaded front, and framed top, yet still elegant. Available through Bergdorf Goodman for $995.
I realize many teens want to rage against authority and colors, but Lindsay, you are looking a little bit scary mmmkay? The combination of pale skin, dark jeans, dark hat, black tank, is not very flattering and your outfit is screaming for a splash of color. Luckily LiLo was wise enough to pair a Louis Vuitton Pochette Cles with her somber outfit. This cles comes from the Louis Vuitton Monogram Charms collection and sports a fuchsia silk scarf covered with a vinyl coating showing off the LV chain pattern. There is ruffled calf leather trim, golden brass hardware, and a removable chain strap with a key holder. Hey Hohan, ditch the Emo and revert back to style tips from the ever so tiny Rachel Zoe- at least you looked like the rest of the A listers then and not a rager. Buy the Louis Vuitton Key Holder Lindsay Lohan sports via eLuxury for $330.
For the most supple leather, I turn to Bottega Veneta handbags. If you have never had the pleasure of touching a BV bag close up you are truly missing out. The woven leather is divine. My gorgeous pick for the day is the Bottega Veneta Catena Large Veneta which makes my handbag loving heart melt with its lush woven white Nappa leather and brown stitching pattern. This bag hails from the Resort 2006 line, which is pretty much where I would like to be right now; a resort somewhere away from any temperature that dips below 60 degrees. The top has a zip closures that leads into the suede lining and two interior pockets. Drool, right? Pre-order this beauty from Bottega Veneta for $2100.
A handbag is a handbag, so any extra touch can differentiate a handbag from ordinary. Ways to get the job done would include exotic materials or updating the usual parts (like handles). Perfectly distinguishing itself from the rest, the Devi Kroell Nile Perch Shoulder Bag uses both exotic fish skin along with a shoulder strap that threads through holes and hangs in place with gold slim cylinders that act like toggle closures. Toggle closures are seen on jewelry all the time, but I have never seen this on a bag. The bag closes with a magnetic fastening and the inside has two four pockets. This is arm candy via Brown’s for $2,250.88.
As you all know October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The month is coming to a close, but you can always give money to the cause throughout the year. I am an advocate of simply giving money to The National Breast Cancer Organization, but I have found that I am more apt to buy certain products that have proceeds that are donated to it also. The Primp Breast Cancer Awareness Crew Tee features pink ribbons throughout the soft tee. Near the shoulder and hem a ribbion is adorned with pink rhinestones. Primp clothing is one of my favorite lines (I’m a big fan of the bunnie vest with a hoodie) because the material is so soft and the designs are casual and cute. This tee has 3/4″ banding, short sleeves, and is 50% cotton and 50% polyester. Best news is you are helping to fight breast cancer when you buy this shirt, because like I mentioned 50% of the proceeds will be donated to National Breast Cancer Organization. Buy one of these cute and comfy tees at ShopBop for $68.
I know it is Sunday evening and no one really wants to bother to think, but my flu/cold has completely inhibited my ability to process anything- hence we shall play Name That Bag!! While I am well aware that the blue shopping bag is Tiffany’s, can any of you name Halle Berry’s black handbag? :-D
The trend for spring 2007 handbags will be sleek and streamlined. Karl Lagerfeld combines this spring trend with perfect charm decoration in this Chanel Charm 2.55 Handbag. On top of classic Chanel quilting are charms ranging from the word Paris to a butterfly to the classic Chanel CC. Sexy and sleek are perfect for spring. Enquire via your local Chanel boutique.
One simple word: unimpressed. Chloe Dao was Project Runway Season 2‘s winner. While on the show her designs were elegant and fit in all the right places for the women that modeled them. Granted The Chloe Bag by Chloe Dao is meant to be used as an overnight bag or carry on, the color and saying looks overly simple and grade-schoolish. The phrase “Carry On” is stitched on the blue canvas bag which was inspired by one of Tim Gunn’s popular sayings from the show. Measurements are 17″ wide, 10″ height, 7″ diameter, yet either way I would expect more from Chloe. Via NBC Universal Store for $95.
The following news just in:
Gucci has continued its partnership with UNICEF this season in their 2006 Holiday campaign which will benefit UNICEF programs that aid children in Africa.
From November 21st to December 31st, Gucci will donate 20 percent of the sales from a luxurious collection of items designed by Gucci’s Creative Director, Frida Giannini. The proceeds will specifically benefit education and health services to children in Mozambique, where nearly three-quarters of a million children are directly affected by HIV/AIDS.
Hot stuff! It appears that companies have really fueled the awareness for the poorest of the poor recently. Bono’s Red Campaign is one of the big ones, involving a lot of ginormous corporations, like Limited and Apple. Learn more about the Gucci UNICEF campaign at FWD. Dun dun dun… it is the battle of the satchels! Today you will be the judge of the bag that wins this contest. On the left we have the Botkier Bianca Leather Satchel while on the right we have the Chloe Betty Satchel. Both of these handbags use supple plush leather and pair two front pockets to give the bag a casual but swanky feel. The Botkier bag is designed with ivory leather and golden hardware. There are double shoulder straps along with a zip top closure. Dimensions are 7 1/2″H x 14 1/2″W x 5 1/2″D. The Chloe Betty Satchel showcases gray leather along with silver metal hardware. This satchel also has a shoulder strap with rings and a zip top. Measurements of this bag are a bit larger at 16″H x 17″W x 6″D. Accenting the Botkier bag are tassel pull tabs while a zip top coin purse adorns the Chloe bag. To me both of these handbags look quite similar and offer many of the same things. You be the judge of who wins the battle of the satchel. I won’t give away the price, but when you do see it, you most likely will chose one bag over the next. Botkier via Saks and Chloe via Saks.
