The YSL Roady was one of the most coveted bags of the season alongside the Alexander Wang Coco Duffel among others. Yves Saint Laurent added the Roady to their group of bags and this simple hobo became an instant hit.
Celebrities and handbags lovers alike began sporting this bag. Now YSL has an opportunity for all of you who love the Roady but did not purchase your own yet. In both NYC and LA customers will be able to customize their YSL Roady from now through December 1st, 2009. (more…)
Yves Saint Laurent is loving the chain under leather look for this season. First we saw all the celebs crushing on the YSL Roady. The Roady of choice for many of the celebs and customers alike is the black leather with metal chain insert. And that version of the YSL Roady has a very familiar feel to this YSL bag.
The Yves Saint Laurent Nappa Leather Clutch mixes chunky chain metal hardware with sleek gray leather. There is an optional shoulder strap which is always a nice touch. To go hand held or shoulder strap is the question? Sometimes I like to use the optional shoulder strap as a wristlet handle. I know, so bold and daring. Back to this YSL bag. (more…)
For all of you who love brown handbags, I apologize profusely as it seems you got stuck with a group of gals who share more of an affinity to black handbags. When we find a great brown bag, we will not cease to share it with you. This time I think I found a brown bag with a black counterpart that I like even less. Ridiculous, right?
We reviewed the Yves Saint Laurent Studded Satchel and were pleasantly surprised to see YSL take on the studded trend. YSL did so gracefully with a refined touch. The studs on their bag are flush with the leather rather than protruding. Let’s take a more in depth look at this brown YSL handbag. (more…)
Yves Saint Laurent has perfected the art of suede printing bags. The duffel shape is a bit hit for fall and the simple shape of the Yves Saint Laurent Easy Suede Bag looks amazing with rich, lizard-print suede. The burgundy is a stunner and the mustard truly doesn’t look bad on the website, though I wonder what it looks like in person. If you have not felt a YSL sueded bag in person, you must! I assure you it is divine. Dimensions are 16¾”W X 12½”H X 6½”D.
We have already covered the YSL Downtown Tote. This style made its way into the YSL lineup when YSL finally came back into the handbag market, having bags that were deemed “it” bags rather than eclectic non-wearable for the masses bags. But there is something that YSL does that so many other designers do, that sometimes I just don’t get; they reinvent a good design again and again and again. Whether it be material, color, size, the designers take a hit bag and try to make a new version that will appeal to a different crowd. Sometimes the result is brilliant, and sometimes it is a big old fail.
So let me ask you what you think of the Yves Saint Laurent Small Downtown Tote which has been reinvented with a blue ombre effect; brilliant or fail? There is no doubt that the smooth suede calfskin leather is sumptuous, the shape is no different, it is just the color effect. This bag also features double handles, two side zips, an inside zip pocket, and suede lining. I am not always a fan of ombre. I have found a few sweaters that can show ombre well but other than that I am just not super fond of it. And on a handbag? There is a way to go about it where it is subtle, not over zealous, and not a sharp change in colors. What do you think? Buy through Saks for $1895.
I think we all know that Yves Saint Laurent is, uh, kind of freaking brilliant. He passed recently, but his eponymous label lives on in what seem to be very capable hands, if the Yves Saint Laurent Majorelle Medium Bag is any indication. The bag is a perfectly vintage shape – I picture elegant, monied women in the 1950s wearing this bag, along with a chic pair of gloves (why don’t we wear gloves anymore? Or hats? Can we bring those things back?) and a 3/4 sleeve skirt-suit.
The thing is, though, this shape is so timeless that you don’t have to be a vintage-lover to understand its appeal. It’s simple, functional, and not at all gimmick-y. The color is a gorgeous example of one of the season’s popular berry tones, and the patent makes it extra glam and very ‘now.’ I would imagine that this bag could be dressed up or down quite easily – based on the dimensions on Saks’ website, “medium” is an accurate description of the bag and it wouldn’t be too big for dinner out or too small to take to work or to the mall. Feeling kinda sassy? Tie a beautiful silk scarf to the handle, like many ladies on the forum do with their Hermes bags. But really, this bag is freakin’ awesome on its own, and would add a great pop of color to pretty much any outfit that any of you own, so everyone out there that’s afraid of color and has lots of black and brown needs to at least THINK about this handbag, for a moment mmk? Buy through Saks for $1395.
My love of Yves Saint Laurent has only been growing recently. Their handbag collection was not known years ago for appealing to a younger twenty-something crowd, but lately, YSL handbags have been riding the wave. While the YSL Tribute Flat Tote is made to look ancient with the crackled gold finish, the finished product has an old world feel with a new world appeal. The way this bag is finished is quite intriguing, as the patent leather is styled with a fresh finished of crackled gold. The gold is not super blingy, more of a subdued brushed gold. The doubles shoulder straps have an 8″ drop. This bag is just as flat as they say it is, with merely 1″D, but somehow I still love it. It is a fresh look, a clean look, and a highly sought after bag. The inside does have a zip pocket along with silk satin lining. Overall dimensions are 16½”W X 17¾”H X 1″D. Pre-order through Saks for $1295.
There is something so beautiful about many YSL handbags. I do not love them all, but I do love most. The designs are typically very elegant, clean, and wearable. YSL has been using a process of crocodile-embossing their suede, which leaves us with such a stunning effect. There are a few design houses that currently soften their crocodile skins until it does feel like suede (Bottega Veneta does this beautifully), but it is very expensive. Croc-embossed suede looks much more real than croc-embossed leather and I happen to like it much more. The Yves Saint Laurent Capri Flap Hobo implements this croc-suede in a chic shape that is a perfect everyday bag. I have been very drawn to flap bags lately, they allude this feeling of casual style but can still look incredibly stunning and pull an outfit together beautifully. This YSL bag has a golden chain toggle closure with a wooden ornament. On the inside there is a clever center zip that divides the bag in two along with a zip and cell phone pocket. Dimensions are 17″W X 14″H X 6″D. Big question now is which color is better, almond or sky antracite. Both are great, both will last season to season. Buy through Saks for $1595.
