We may have never covered Vivienne Tam previously on PurseBlog, but there is a first time for everything. And I am happy the first time is with her F/W 2011 runway show, because there was something entirely enthralling about the collection. Paying homage to her Chinese roots, Vivienne Tam’s fall collection was said to be inspired by the 600-year old Kun Opera.

The opera costume references were evident, alongside lace, embroidery, and many other embellishments. The beginning started with dark colored tweed and wool pieces which was followed by turtleneck sweaters in deep blue and grey. These pieces looked thick but not overly bulky and entirely winter warm.

Following the heavy almost blanket-like looks, followed a 20’s-feeling-flapper sequin and fringe dresses. The collection featured many wearable pieces. I had this pang of wanting to hop backstage after the show to grab one of the tweed coats to wear now. (more…)
