To me, how a piece of clothing or an accessory looks is secondary to how you feel when you wear or carry it. Fashion is fickle and everyone’s a critic, but when a dress or a bag or a pair of shoes makes you feel like your best self, it’s worth whatever it might cost. Style is instinctual far more than it is logical, and if you let that dizzy, glamourous feeling be your guide, you probably won’t go wrong.

The Marchesa Fall 2012 evening bags and clutches were made to elicit exactly that hazy head rush. If you’ve ever dreamed of being a princess, most of these bags feature enough stones and beading to make you completely forget about your lack of actual crown jewels. Maybe you have a formal wedding to attend this fall or are getting married yourself – if either of those is the case, you’d be hard pressed to find a more comprehensive selection of formal evening bags that don’t opt for an extremely traditional aesthetic. Whatever the case may be, a little extra sparkle never hurt anyone – check out all of the bags in our gallery after the jump. (more…)

Alexander McQueen Punk Skull Box Clutch, $2720 via Net-a-Porter

We’re readying a much more extensive guide to sparkly little bags for the holiday season, but while that’s in the pipeline, I couldn’t help but post about the Alexander McQueen Punk Skull Box Clutch – after all, it really deserves to stand on its own. Feathers and rhinestones and beads, oh my!

With the bag, McQueen manages again to do what it always does so well – successfully combine multiple heavy design elements in a way that doesn’t feel overwrought or silly. The company makes that kind of light touch look easy, but it’s not – just as whoever’s behind Christian Louboutin’s handbags. A clutch like this one is to be celebrated as something of an accomplishment. (more…)

Dolce & Gabbana Jewel and Pearl Embellished Clutch, $6895 via Net-a-Porter

The most important thing to note about the Dolce & Gabbana Jewel and Pearl Embellished Bag, right up front, is that it’s a full foot wide. I’m going to allow you to adjust to that information for a moment, perhaps measure an air-foot out with your hands to get an idea of the scale that we’re talking about here.

Ok, are we good now? Great. (more…)

With the online launch of Chanel Spring 2011 comes the advent of Chanel Outstanding Pieces Spring 2011, which is the special moniker that the French brand uses for the most intricate, luxurious and expensive designs from each of its product categories. Encompassing everything from rare exotic leathers to hand embroidery, these bags are the creme de la creme from one of the finest leather goods companies in the world.

Would you like a Chanel Classic Flap completely covered in glittering crystals? It can be yours. What about a baby pink crocodile Mademoiselle bag? That too. Chanel doesn’t publicly release prices for thes pieces, but the old trope probably applies: If you have to ask, you can’t afford it. I know I can’t, but looking? Looking is free. (more…)

Admittedly we’ve only discussed two Fall 2010 bags from Twelfth St. by Cynthia Vincent so far, but it already looks as though the line has made vast improvements over its inaugural handbag efforts from Spring 2010.

The Twelfth St. by Cynthia Vincent Cosmo Pouch in particular seems like good, girly fun. The look reminds me a bit of the Leah and Bliss bedazzled “Birkins” that we covered on PurseBlog earlier this year, but the relatively similar size, shape and color of all the stuck-on stones gives it a bit more of a refined edge. I didn’t get an invitation (lost in the mail somewhere, surely) to the 2010 Emmy Awards, so I’m just going to show you a life-size picture of the Alexander McQueen Crystal-Encrusted Skull Clutch and imagine it in my hand. Because of that lost invite, I was also forced to give back my Marchesa dress and let Heidi Klum wear it, but she didn’t have the clutch to pair with it. So, in that regard, I still win. Except that she’s Heidi Klum, and I’m a blogger who doesn’t actually own this clutch either, technically speaking.

Ok, so maybe I don’t win. Either way, you can keep up with our coverage of Emmy fashion and weigh in on your favorites (and least favorites, because that’s way more fun) over at BagThatStyle.com!

Buy through Alexander McQueen for $2215.

At this point, if you don’t like leopard print, I feel kind of bad for you. It seems as though every brand under the sun, from high-end to low-end and everything in between, has released some sort of leopard bag for fall. The trend is inescapable, which is great if you’re like me and you already had a pair of glittery silver and black leopard leggings left over from last year. Yeah, I said it.

If I had an extra four grand laying around, this Chanel Strass and Tweed Leopard Classic Flap would be the perfect compliment to my admittedly tacky-but-fun leggings. Or to a black dress of any sort. Or any outfit, really. (more…)

Lucite and I are having a moment lately. Well, not just Lucite, but any kind of clear acrylic – it may be best known as the main component in stripper heels, but it also has many lovely modernist applications, particularly in home decor.

It also has its place in a slightly more retro aesthetic, which the Judith Leiber Streamline Frosted Lucite Clutch displays beautifully. (more…)

Chloe Leather Bow Clutch

Now this? THIS is how you make a unique clutch! Forget the mess of paillettes that we saw earlier this morning – the Chloe Leather Bow Clutch is head and shoulders above that bag and most others that I’ve seen lately. (more…)
