Spring has officially arrived. What better way to celebrate than laying in the grass with your Rebecca Minkoff Loveletter Satchel? Our new bag model, Jenna, spent her afternoon last week just that way. Buy via ShopBop for $495.
Holy poop, y’all. I love this bag. The Rebecca Minkoff Devote Belted Top Tote is, in a word, awesome. For me, at least. It’s a big ol’ hobo, made of great leather, in a bright color, with understated accents and JUST ONE STRAP. A lot of designers lately have succumbed to the urge to add an extra, longer strap to handbags that already have a perfectly functional one, and Ms. Minkoff didn’t do that to this great bag. For that, I salute her, and I just may have to get one of these babies. This shape is my favorite of all time – a hobo that’s slightly taller than it is wide with a giant opening at the top – all the better to dig through when my Blackberry has fallen to the bottom. That’s one thing this bag doesn’t appear to have that I wish it did – an outside pocket for holding my phone and iPod. But I guess we can’t have everything we want, can we, ladies? Buy through Nordstrom for $630.
While we gave a sneak peak to the Minkettes on the forum already, it is time we formally introduce the Rebecca Minkoff Spring 2009 line. We had the pleasure to sit down with Rebecca two weeks ago to ask her your questions, find out more about what is to come, and see her hot new bags. Studs are seen on many of the bags, offering a rocker edge, which is the perfect touch for the gal with a little kick in her step. The colors are popping, the hardware is a mixture of old and new, and the wish lists for these bags are growing.
Rebecca Minkoff vs Malababa
Final comparison for the day, the ever-famous Rebecca Minkoff Morning After Mini versus a new designer in our spectrum, the Malababa Superglue Bag. First thing I must compare is the names. Both are quirky and have that special punch. The Morning After has such a strong connotation, which I love! But Superglue is a funky one, as is Malababa of course.
Both bags deem that they are big enough to carry the essentials. Both bags size up nearly the exact same, only the Malababa has 4 more inches depth wise (other measurements are identical, 8″H x 12″L). The look is quite similar, both having the same shape, same body, and a zip front pocket. But for me, Rebecca Minkoff wins with the flap over the front zip pocket and the signature spring clasp details on the side of the Morning After Mini.
What do you think on the battle of Rebecca Minkoff vs Malababa?
A hobo is the perfect shape for me. I suppose I sound like a broken record to you all, but I absolutely love a slouchy hobo. In fact, when I see what the girls in Hollywood are wearing and what bags they are carrying I would fit right in. I rarely leave the house dressed to the nines, in fact, I hope none of you see me on my morning errands! On a side note, I do think of that often and wonder if I should probably make sure to spruce up a bit more in case a Purse Blog reader or Purse Forum member runs into me. Anyhow, the Rebecca Minkoff Nikki is a Purse Blog favorite, not only loved by me, but loved by one of our newest members Amanda (and the countless celebs who adore RM bags, like Hilary Duff). Amanda covered this bag in her first post, and I feel the need to update and let you know about two of my favorite colors from RM this season in the Nikki. Best news is, both sea green and persimmon are carried at Shop Bop. I don’t have to go into great detail about this bag, because most of you already know about it. It is a hobo, with an magnetic snap top, inside pockets, and a slouchy appeal. Love it? Me too. Now the colors. There is the sea green, which eases your mind and adds a splash of Caribbean water goodness, and then persimmon which looks as luscious as the fruit it is named after. For me, the problem is choosing which color. Luckily, you can always buy both. $600 through Shop Bop.
Oh, and if you want to be a little more confused, there is a wine and yellow glazed leather version at Shop Bop for $625.
The allure behind Rebecca Minkoff bags continues with a sneak peak at the Holiday 2008 collection. We got our hands on some exclusive goods to show you all what is to come from this young, hot designer. Pairing the success of the Morning After with the funky basketweave-like touch, the Rebecca Minkoff Morning After Mini is ready for Holiday in a Navy Luxe Combo. You know why I love this bag? It is the supple deep navy leather paired with the stiff brighter patent leather blue. And while the patent stands out, it is not completely distracting. It is like the perfect little combination of colors that look like blue jeans with a punch. (more…)
Purse Blog would like to introduce the newest addition to the writing team, meaning that we now have a total of three writers (yes mostly me, then sporadically Vlad). Amanda Mull is a 22-year-old writer, blogger, and gal-about-town from Atlanta, Georgia. She has a degree in magazine journalism from the University of Georgia and loves to share her opinions with everyone, regardless of whether or not they want to hear them. If, for some reason, you do, you can find her personal blog at www.graduationday.wordpress.com. She can also be found on The Purse Forum as ‘amanda.’
Rebecca Minkoff Nikki
So, I have this problem. I’m an online stalker. A creeper. Of handbags, that is, but I suppose they have feelings too. When I get my mind set on a bag, I follow it all around the internet in search of free shipping, no tax, coupon codes, and someone willing to barter for maid services. For the past three weeks, I’ve wanted nothing more than a Rebecca Minkoff Nikki hobo, and I’ve been peeking in its internet windows.
And what I see is wonderful – the Nikki hobo is great fodder for people that love nice leather since the hardware and tailoring are subtle and accent the soft material and rich colors that the bag is available in. Fall ’08 features jewel tones of deep red and purple, which will surely be a great pick-me-up to fall and winter wardrobes that can all too easily be weighed down in drab neutrals. I find the cloud grey most appealing, though. A wonderful lighter grey with lots of purple and blue undertones, the color would be perfect to wear during either warm or cold temperatures and go with every color that I can think of. The most versatile bag I’ve ever owned was a grey leather hobo, and this bag reminds me of all the best parts of my old standby.
Unfortunately, we’re in one of those odd times of years in between when the Spring collections get discounted and the Fall collections hit stores full-force, so I don’t have that many Nikkis upon which to gaze. Several stores have started taking pre-orders, though, and Funky La La has the cloud grey Nikki pictured and available for delivery in just 3 short weeks (not bad, considering some sites have Fall colors pushed back well in to football season). Pre-order through Funky LaLa for $600.
It is finally summer! Sure in Florida summer means over 90 degree weather and lots of afternoon thunderstorms, but I just love summer. This summer we have a few trips planned, and at least one will be to NYC. Something I have always wanted to do is picnic in Central Park. It is not even that cliche, the Park is huge and perfect for a summer picnic! I recently picked up my newest Rebecca Minkoff acquisition which is the perfect picnic tote. The Rebecca Minkoff Bread and Wine Tote is the talked about bag from this hip designer for the summer. Available in chocolate or royal blue, the Bread and Wine tote is designed to be a reusable market bag, everyday bag, and picnic bag. Rebecca added this eco-friendly addition just in time for summer. The tote features canvas and leather with two outside pockets; one of bread and one for wine. Five perfect of profits benefit The Earth Organization. Dimensions are 15 in x 14 in x 4 in. I absolutely adore this bag and can’t wait to use it for outdoor markets and picnics. Buy through Rebecca Minkoff for $185.
As we continue to provide exclusive information to our readers, designer interviews will become more common on Purse Blog. We have previously sat down with Rebecca Minkoff to learn more about her brand and looked forward to following up further this past week. Rebecca Minkoff has created a bag frenzy, amassing a large following who need their Rebecca Minkoff fix. Her colors have become highly sought after, including her Tangerine, Wine, and Basket weave. This past week we sat down to ask Rebecca your questions, get a sneak peek at her Fall 2008 line, and take an exclusive tour of her NYC factory.
Rebecca Minkoff Violet Matinee
And I thought Vlad was off in thinking the Matinee was modeled after Michael Jackson’s jacket in his Thriller video; but the story behind the Matinee will come next week. We are huge fans of the Matinee here at Purse Blog. I have constantly gotten looks and questions about mine and look forward to grabbing a few more. The bags are practical, chic, and fun. One of my favorite colors, and the perfect color if you want something different but not your typical black, the Rebecca Minkoff Violet Matinee is the perfect option. This cool shape is made with supple leather and the flaps on the side have a light violet underneath. There is gold hardware, leather pullbacks, and loads of pockets for all of your needs. Buy through Delcina for $655. And if you are looking for another stunning option, the Jade Matinee is expected to ship next week! (more…)
I know, I know, why does anyone care about Lauren Conrad? Is she even a celebrity? MTV made her one, they really did, and actually I must admit that a) I love her and b) I was so excited to watch The Hills premiere last night! Ok I am totally a dork, but really, I know many of you will unwillingly come forward and say you love the show too. As her status continues to flourish as a reality star, the paparazzi love her more and more. All last week Lauren Conrad was spotted carrying her Rebecca Minkoff Wine Nikki around both the East and West Coast of the USA. The Wine color from Rebecca Minkoff is the elusive must have (refer back to the Wine Matinee). But the craze over this color is far from over, there is a growing crowd that is searching everywhere for the Wine leather Rebecca has produced. Because Rebecca Minkoff loves us so much, she has opened up orders for Wine leather bags to our forum members (READ this thread for details). There is also a pre-order for the Wine Nikki online which is back ordered until 5/31. Cost is $600. (more…)
Rebecca Minkoff has taken the handbag loving world by storm. As she creates must-have bags, it is actually the colors that has people going crazy. This reminds me of Balenciaga bags, whose colors from seasons past are highly sought after. After the masses saw photos of Vanessa Hudgens with her Rebecca Minkoff Wine Matinee the color became the hottest color that Rebecca has produced. Problem was the quantities were few and they sold out immediately. People began scouring eBay looking for this bag and
asking begging others for information where to find it. I heard through the grape vine that Rebecca decided to make 10 more of these bags, which all went to members of Purse Forum (they are still waiting on the bag). Rebecca knew my love of this bag, and one day in the mail I got an amazing surprise. I saw the box was from Rebecca Minkoff and was stumped; I opened it up and was excited like a kid on Christmas morning, seeing that she sent me a Wine Matinee. The bag was not easy for her to come by even, but she did, and I am forever grateful. This is by far the most sultry, amazing color. And the compliments I get from the bag are endless. A special thanks to our friend Becky for hooking us up with the hottest bag she has released yet!
