Mark Cross might be best known (in the US, at least) for its women’s bags, but the brand has the kind of staid, classic aesthetic that easily appeals to men as well. With a traditional …
As you may have noticed, we didn’t do any posts about “Coachella style” around here. There are a few reasons for that: First, feathers + fringe + denim cutoffs does not = style. You only …
There isn’t as much variety or innovative design in the world of men’s bags as in women’s, but there is one important realm in which the boys have one over on us: price. Male consumers are not as desensitized to accessories prices as women are, plus their bags are often simpler and have less hardware, which means that men often get a noticeable break when it comes to the markups we’re all used to.
For example, you won’t be finding any handmade leather bags for less than $300 on Net-a-Porter, but there’s an option that fits that description at the company’s male counterpart, Mr. Porter. As it turns out, there are a lot of great options in a similar price range, so I’ve wrangled three of the best everyday man bags into a single post that might make a few bagless men reconsider their options. Marc by Marc Jacobs Leather Messenger Bag, $480 via Mr. Porter
The resistance to man bags that I most often hear from my straight male friends is that they’re too feminine and too expensive. I think that the “feminine” thing is totally BS – no one’s suggesting that a dude carry a purse, and stereotypically masculine options abound for anyone who’s concerned. Men have carried bags for ages, this isn’t some kind of new metrosexual trend we have here.
The price-consciousness, however, makes a little more sense. Most men aren’t used to the price levels of luxury goods, which is why the Marc by Marc Jacobs Leather Messenger Bag is the focus of this week’s Man Bag Monday. With a non-fussy design and a price that rings up under $500, it’s the perfect gift choice for the boyfriend or husband who’s new to the accessories world. (more…)
At first glance, the CC Skye The Onie Messenger Bag seems great. The use of both smooth and python-embossed lambskin gives the bag a sense of depth and texture, and the crossbody structure and schoolyard feel are on-trend and very current without losing the bag’s classic appeal.
But then…what is this bag supposed to be used for, exactly? At first I thought it was a high-end school or work bag, but the 13″x13″ dimensions and shallow depth mean that it could only be used for small books and an iPad or netbook at most. At the same time, though, those dimensions seem a little bulky for an everyday handbag. (more…)
I always hated back-to-school time. It’s not that I particularly liked summer or disliked learning, but I just resented the loss of freedom that going back to class represented. The only part about the whole process in which I found any redeeming value was back-to-school shopping. Naturally.
And every year, my favorite part of the whole process was picking my school bag. Two weeks ago a commenter asked for a roundup of book-worthy options, and since it’s getting to be that time of year again across the United States, we’d like to take the opportunity to do just that. From totes to backpacks to messenger bags, we’ve got the best of the best at a reasonable price point. (more…)
