Lately, Marni has been going slouchy and I like it. Sure, growing up my mother, grandmother and various family members would always tell the kids, “don’t slouch”. Well, I’m going to go against that and tell the folks over at Marni to keep slouching their way into our hearts and our closets! A little while ago, Amanda brought you the Marni Slouchy Leather Bag. Although that bag received mixed reviews from our readers, I had to bring you another Marni bag. The Marni Slouchy Shoulder Bag demonstrates how a bit of asymmetry can actually work. The caramel slouchy leather with silver-tone hardware, shoulder strap, zip across the top and turnlock fastening all come together nicely. In a season full of bright, Bright, BRIGHT colors, it would be nice to add a neutral bag to your wardrobe. Buy through Net-a-Porter for $1410.
For me, the name of this purse totally describes its appeal – the Marni Slouchy Leather Bag is soft, smooshy, and leather-ific. We don’t often cover Marni bags on the blog, and their line is small compared to some of the powerhouse brands like Gucci or Louis Vuitton, but seeing a piece like this only makes me think that I should find someplace to take a look at the rest of what they offer. What they’ve done with this bag is honestly kind of cool – they’ve found a way to take a bag we’ve all seen before (a slouchy, soft hobo) and make it visually interesting in its construction. Marni didn’t take the cheaters way out on this one, which would have been adding ridiculous amounts of hardware or pockets or buckles to make it different. Instead, they made something that looked innovative while still being familiar and functional. It may be my favorite bag of the new season thus far. Buy through Net-a-Porter for $1780.
Here is yet another handbag that I can’t seem to make up my mind about. On this gorgeous South Florida Monday, the Marni Flower Appliqué Clutch has me a bit confused. At first glance, I didn’t think I liked it. The clutch sort of reminds me of the kind of pattern you might see on a couch or something like that. The midnight blue silk padded clutch seems more than anything, a little bit dated. I could see this clutch being very popular say, back in the 40’s but I am not sure about 2008. You all know that I am a sucker for satin, so that was the part of the clutch that had me wanting to give it a second chance. But, the two large resin appliqué flowers don’t really add anything to the clutch that I like. My other issue, how often could you carry this? I am sure you might have a few outfits in your closet that you could pair this with, but still, it doesn’t seem very versatile. However, if you can pull this off, buy through Net-a-Porter for $525.
Today is gorgeous. I just went on and on about it over at Purse Blog Savvy so I won’t ramble much more about that. However, gorgeous weather does put me in the mood to find bright and fun bags. I guess this is why the Marni Leather Shoulder Bag caught my eye. Actually, it was the bright green color that really caught my eye. The green metallic soft suede has silver detailing throughout the bag. You might not be able to notice from this image, but this is actually an oversized shoulder bag so there is ample room for whatever you might want to tote around. This bag also has a cut-out flap-over front and is fastened with a clasp. To add a little bit of contrast, the leather handle is adorned with silver links. In the past, I haven’t been a huge fan of Marni bags, but I think this one is growing on me a bit. I really think the greed suede has tipped the scale towards the “like” side as opposed to “dislike”. What do you think? Has this Marni bag grabbed your attention? Buy through Net-a-Porter for $1,815.
Much of the fashion world has clamored to grab a Marni handbag. Not this girl. There is something about these bags that I like and then a bigger part of these bags I do not like. So as I stare at the bags I attempt to pick them apart and decide what exactly it is that rubs me the wrong way. It is not the modern edge that the bags are given, because typically this is a style I appreciate. Maybe it is the lackluster finish of just a large balloon shape. Yes, the allure of the Marni Balloon bag is the shape, but is it really a shape that really is what I am looking for? I suppose the issue is me then; the bags are not horrible, but it is that they do not do it for me. Even more so is the color combination of some. Ok, only one of their bags can I think of that I really do not like the color combination; the purple and brown balloon tote.
Marni handbags are notoriously geometrical and modern, which I like. But these bags have yet to have me running outside to buy one. They do ok for me, but they are not getting all of my undivided attention. The feel surrounding these bags is Chloe-esque, hearty and lush leathers with a strong design.
