Belstaff is one of those awesome English brands (well, it’s Italian-owned now), a younger and hipper brother of brands with the coveted coat of arms of a member of the Royal Family. Who doesn’t want to be a purveyor to the Queen, like Smythton or Launer? Well, Belstaff doesn’t have the coat of arms, but that doesn’t mean they’re icky. Let’s just say they’re not what the ever-proper Queen would tote.
I can’t imagine Her Majesty would carry this Belstaff Large New York Postman Bag, but it would be right at home on the shoulder of a young fashionista. I hate brown leather, as you all know, except when I totally love it. And that occurrence is exceedingly rare – I hardly ever get to write about a brown bag and pontificate on how glorious the color is. Most designers just don’t get it right that often.
The Belstaff Sack Shoulder Bag, however, absolutely nails it. The color reminds me of the much-celebrated “whiskey” shade that Chloe made famous in the It Bag heyday of the Paddington and Edith, but in a shape and design that really shows of how beautiful it is. (more…)
