You guys, I’ve been waiting for the Beckon Plissé Clutch bag to show up on Nordstrom‘s website ever since I saw it in person last week at the mall. I very nearly bought one (too bad it’s self-employment tax time!), and I’m still very much considering that as an option for the future. The cool thing about this clutch is that it’s made out of the same artfully pleated leather as the Beckon Plissé Shopper that we covered last week. Because it’s in a more structured form, though, the pleats flatten out just a bit and give the bag a slightly different look.

What doesn’t change, though, is the immense dimension that’s created by the unexpected leatherworking. The bag has depth and visual interest while still being a simple, sleek leather clutch. The leather is the decoration in and of itself, and it requires no hardware of any kind. The bag has a hidden magnetic closure sewn in and is the perfect medium size to be either a day or night clutch. It comes in several beautiful colors (more are available in-store than online), but my favorite is the berry since it can be worn in any season and with a multitude of other shades. For $98, you really can’t go wrong – buy through Nordstrom.

Beckon Plisse ShopperWhen I first saw the Beckon Plisse Shopper on Nordstrom’s website, I kept right on going. It looked like nothing more than a fabric sack with some rolled handles, and for almost $200 from an unknown designer, I didn’t think that that was worth a second look. But sometimes it’s hard to find so many notable handbags to write about per day, so today, I clicked on it. And I was surprised to find out that the bag is ALL LEATHER. That’s right, all that super-intricate pleating is leather, not silk or satin like I figured. So that makes it interesting in ways for which I was not entirely prepared, don’t you think? Leather is not a material that makes tight pleating easy, and whoever this Beckon brand is has managed to do it quite well, and for a reasonable price. I’d be very, very interested to see this bag in person to see what the leather is like when it’s been worked like that. At any rate, I’d encourage all of you guys to click through and play around with Nordstrom’s zoom feature, it’s worth the 30 seconds out of your day to see it up close. Buy through Nordstrom for $178.
