Jean-Michel Basquiat is considered by many to be one of the most important artists of the 20th century. The late designer was (and is) incredibly influential, widely known among the downtown New York art scene of the 1980s. His work was rich with references to not only African art, but American pop culture with key elements of his work being recognized worldwide. The artist tragically passed away at the young age of 27, but since his death over 30 years ago, his boundary-breaking art continues to strike a chord with the modern art and fashion crowd.
His work has sparked inspiration among many, from present day artists to designers and brands alike. Now, we’re taking a look at the latest designer to collaborate with the Basquiat estate, Saint Laurent Rive Droite, curated by creative director Anthony Vaccarello. The capsule includes tees, iPhone cases, skateboards, and select bags all emblazoned with Basquiat’s iconic art. The collection is available online now via Saint Laurent as well as through September 7th at 213 Rue Saint-Honoré, Paris and 469 Rodeo Drive, Los Angeles.
