We’ve been loving seeing all of you guys tag us in your #PurseBlogWIMB pictures. It’s so much fun to see your collections and what you all keep in your bags. Just as we suspected, you guys are just like us! This month, we were excited to see longtime PurseBlog reader Madeline aka @SupremeLuxuryQueen tag us on Instagram. We were drawn to how diverse her collection of bags is—a beautifully ornate Gucci Dionysus, a classic black Chanel flap, a cute and quirky Kate Spade tote—her collection has it all! PurseBlog: Why do you love handbags?
Madeline: Beautiful shoes hurt my feet, and my dress size is forever changing. Handbags can do no wrong in my eyes because they are set in their beauty, and only seek to help me carry my life rather than hinder it. If you have ever hobbled in Louboutins and cursed the day you bought them, I’m sure you understand where I’m coming from. My outfit and shoes can be simple but my bag can always steal the show.
PB: What are some items you always have in your bag?
M: Lipstick, phone, pen, and notebook
PB: What was your fist designer bag, and how old were you when you got it? Why did you want that bag?
M: I will never forget my first bag. I still have it, but am a little embarrassed by it because my 18-year-old self decorated it heavily with pins, charms and plush toys!
I graduated from high school not feeling very stylish. Now that I was in college, with more access to fashionable people, I began to look, hoping to be thrown a glimmer or two of hope. I got none and turned to Japanese magazines for inspiration, where then I noticed that all the popular girls had Louis Vuitton bags, specifically the Speedy. At the time, I felt the Speedy was impractical; I was more of a shoulder bag girl than a hand-held girl. But then the Speedy Bandouliere was announced, and I was sold.
I had about three months before it would be in stores, and during the three months I begged, pleaded and suffered for every single cent for the bag. When launch day came, I strolled into Louis Vuitton at Saks Fifth Avenue and came out proudly with a beautiful Speedy Bandouliere 35 in Damier Ebene, emblazoned with my initials. I deeply enjoyed that bag. It exceeded my expectations and made me feel like a star. It meant a lot to my 18-year-old self to have it, and I still look at it from time to time as a reminder of how far I have come.
PB: If you had to carry one bag for the rest of your life, what would it be?
M: Oh the horror! But I strongly feel I could do a Chanel Medium Double Flap in black with gold hardware. It is my most used bag and has traveled all over the world with me. The bag is just so versatile and stylish. Very few bags have the same appeal.
PB: What is the next bag you plan to get and why?
M: I have my glossy eyes on a pink with Hermès Birkin 25 with gold hardware. Something cute and luxurious, yet extremely fun and girly! Especially with such a price point, I like for my bags to be very “out there” and exciting to look at, yet practical to use. I’ve been terribly obsessed with pink lately, and I’m very much in want of a smaller Birkin for more day-to-day wear. Now if Hermès can just let me skip the line…
PB: Is the inside of your bag typically neat and tidy or a mess?
M: It’s an absolute, unapologetic mess. I open my bag and the first thing it tells me is #SorryNotSorry. I do attempt to keep the mess semi-organized; abandoned perfume samples in one corner, receipts and various business cards in another, but for the most part, it’s a lovable mess and I have no plans on changing that.
