Fashion is intended to take us into a new realm, a world of possibilities and beauty, a momentary break from the everyday mundaneness of the necessary. If you are able to transport into this different space, and for a moment you find joy and excitement over what could be, feeling as if you are elsewhere in a different world, then fashion perfects its job. It’s an extension of ourselves and the possibilities of what could be and how we could feel in these escapes. The House under Creative Director Alessandro Michele reshaped the Gucci aesthetic and created a feeling that reigns true for the brand’s ethos under its new direction. It plays on the past and future in a tip-toeing dichotomy of brand heritage and new-age wonder.

We wanted to showcase some key pieces from Gucci Aria in a way that takes you on a journey, one filled with an ethereal and transformative view that brings each item from the runway to a new sort of reality. Bold jewel tones pair with fabrics and materials that dance and move with light and wind, each able to stand alone or be used to complete a full Gucci look.

The House has a longstanding relationship with equestrian references, which can be seen throughout this collection. The Horsebit detailing on bags continues to play a key role that is ubiquitous to the house, and these equestrian nods can be seen on boots and more accessories for Aria as well. The GG Canvas is a key theme in Aria, bringing together objects of desire to feel unequivocally Gucci. There is also a focus on the presence of light, which was quite intentional during the Aria runway show ranging from the runway setup to individual items within the collection. Like this pair of shoes that illuminated everything around it, giving color, movement, and life to its surroundings.

The bags we focused on are updated plays on House classic designs, with unexpected materials and color combinations to add an eclectic mix to more traditional silhouettes. Your fall wardrobe needs a refresh, and we have a look at bags that would seamlessly work into your wardrobe, as well as key ready-to-wear pieces that would quickly become the conversational item of the night.

Gucci Jackie 1961 Small Bag

The Gucci Jackie 1961 was re-introduced for Fall 2020, but it felt as if this iconic staple never left. The bag is notable in its archival origins with the piston closure and clean, sculpted lines. The Jackie pairs unexpected materials on the well-known shape with brown corduroy and dark blue leather accents this season. The blue leather trim is so deep in hue that it appears black. The gold-toned hardware pairs well with the brown and blue, and on the inside of the Jackie, you will find one open and one zippered pocket.

The Jackie Small comes with an additional shoulder strap that can be attached to the bag with a buckle closure to allow for different ways of carrying and ease of use. The handle has a 7″ drop from the central hole while adding the optional shoulder strap allows for a 20.5″ drop from the central hole. Dimensions are 11″W x 7.5″H x 1.8″D.

One of the most recognizable House codes for Gucci is the Horsebit. Seen on everything from bags to shoes to accessories to clothing, the Horsebit traces back to Gucci’s equestrian roots, and the double ring and bar design is an integral piece of the House’s heritage. It is a welcomed staple on the bags, denoting a bag as Gucci for the wearer and admirer alike. This bag shape is part of the Horsebit 1955 family but in a smaller size that perfectly translates for easy carrying and plenty of occasions.

The beige and burgundy GG canvas feels vintage-inspired while remaining instantly recognizable. The rectangular shoulder bag is a shape that is immensely popular for Gucci, and on this bag, it’s the gold-toned hardware that helps the bag stand out. The trim is burgundy leather to playback to the GG canvas, and there’s a front pocket on the exterior as well as an interior zip pocket. There’s a long shoulder strap with a 19.7″ drop, and most importantly, this bag does fit your cellphone. Dimensions are 8.8″W x 6.7″H x 2.6″D.

Gucci Dionysus

In 2015, Alessandro Michele took the helm at Gucci, and the fashion world had no idea of the global impact he would make. The first bag silhouette he introduced was the Dionysus, and now that bag tells a part of the House’s story. Each collection since its arrival, the Dionysus has been reimagined as a cornerstone piece of the Beloved family and stands out with its signature hardware.

Tying back with the corduroy Jackie, the Gucci Dionysus is presented in pink corduroy with the same deep blue leather accents seen on the Jackie. The palladium-toned hardware is adorned with the distinctive tiger head closure and you’ll find a pin closure with a side release to open the top flap. On the interior, there is a zipped compartment as well as an open pocket under the flap. The sliding chain strap allows this bag to be carried as a shoulder bag with a 15″ drop, or you can double it up as a top handle with an 8.5″ drop. Though this is not an oversized bag, it is still plenty large to fit your daily necessities with dimensions of 11″W x 7″H x 3.5″D.

Gucci Riding Boots

Alessandro Michele brought the idea of maximalism into our everyday lives. Fashion is meant to be an extension of our personalities, a way to show what we love and how we feel, so the way in which the House infused prints, patterns, and materials transformed the way many of us decided to dress. You can use a bag as the statement piece of your outfit, but you can also use it to complete a combination of eclectic items. Gucci offers a chartreuse skirt with the GG print and matching bralette for this season, which you can pair with a jewel-toned blazer with feather wrist detailing.

And no need to keep the shoes dainty. Opt for a bold pair of boots. Offered in black leather and brown leather with GG canvas print, these ankle boots with the Double G are what my fall wardrobe craves. Only Gucci allowed me to see them as the perfect boot for everything from a skirt to ornate pants to your more traditional fall attire.
