My personal affinity for Gucci bags has flourished with designer Alessandro Michele leading the brand. I’m not alone; seemingly every major fashion insider feels the same way, and I’ve spotted the brand’s bags, clothing and shoes on many of the most stylish men and women in the world.
When it comes to the bags, the Gucci Dionysus lead the way for Michele’s Gucci, but there is a new bag in town: the Sylvie. If the Dionysus is the brand’s bold, often-embellished, monogram option, the Gucci Sylvie Bag is its ladylike, structured sister. The Sylvie feels old and new all at once, pairing classic Gucci visual signatures with a modernity befitting the brand’s new era.
Rendered in leather, the structured shoulder bag comes in three colors and offers two interchangeable straps: one in smooth, classic leather and another in color-coordinated bi- and tri-color web ribbons. The ribbon strap works much better than you’d expect; I tried it on and was pleasantly surprised by how nicely it hung from my shoulder. Because the ribbon strap can be doubled up and tied in a variety of different ways, you can suit the length to your liking.
Colors offered for the Sylvie include off-white, hibiscus red and black, and each gives you a totally different look. Personally, I’m obsessing over the off-white for spring and summer lights, as well as the red for a colorful statement piece. The front of the bag features an eye-catching metal chain and buckle closure. On the inside, you’ll find microfiber lining and an open pocket, plus one for your smartphone. With dimensions of 10″W x 6.75″H x 3″D, this bag eschews the micro bag trend but is not oversized; in fact, the interior is just right to fit my wallet, phone and beauty items in an organized, easily accessible way. You can buy the Sylvie in red, off-white, and black via Gucci for $2,490.
To bring the Sylvie to life, we decided to document a day in the life of this bag, alongside some of our favorite Gucci Spring 2016 clothing, shoes and accessories. Shop the entire collection via Gucci.com.
