The re-introduction of Gucci’s 1955 Horsebit was a natural next step for the brand, following the release of the vintage inspired Ophidia line. As with other designer brands, Gucci has looked to its archive for inspiration the last few seasons and for Pre-Fall 2020 its ode to the past continues. This collection put a focus on simple, structured designs with minimal branding and sleek hardware. The 1955 Horsebit continues to be a big push for the brand, seen on multiple silhouettes, from the currently coveted shoulder bag to the top handle bowler seen on the Spring 2020 runway. For Pre-Fall 2020 a new shape also appeared bearing the iconic 1955 hardware. The unique, rectangular silhouette appears to be fairly structured and features top handles for hand carrying.
The palette for this season consisted of a mix of neutrals with bold pops (think bright blue and tantalizing turquoise) and eye-catching exotics. An entirely new bag appeared on the runway as well—an easy-to-wear, rectangular mini bag was shown in smooth leather and textured exotics. This flapped design is simple and sleek, fitting in well with the rest of the vintage-inspired collection. The bag is finished with a sleek GG plaque closure and an adjustable strap.
