When it was announced that young designer Matthew Williams would be taking over the reigns at Givenchy as creative director, fans of the brand knew that big changes were afoot. The designer, who has his own streetwear label 1017 ALYX 9SM, is committed to presenting a new direction for the brand while also paying homage to the brand’s history. Williams is part of the new wave of millennial designers who are intent on doing things their own way and his latest collection proves just that.

Givenchy just released its pre-fall 2021 lookbook, giving fans a peek at what’s to come from Givenchy next fall. Of course, the collection includes bags, and lots of them. From new and innovative takes on the brand’s iconic Antigona shape to flap bags and mini bags with chunky chains and more, there’s no shortage of newness in this collection. The House’s archival and iconic four-G logo is seen throughout, used on hardware such as chains and closures as well as embossed onto leather bags. Williams spoke to Vogue on his usage of logos stating, “I’m doing the logos through construction and materials as much as possible, when there’s branding, it’ll be more subtle.” With the presentation of this collection, Williams has cemented his vision for the brand moving forward, making it clear that change is a necessary part of growth.
