Mansur Gavriel Debuts a Slew of New Bag Shapes on Its See-Now, Buy-Now Spring 2018 Runway

Many of the new bags and colors are available for immediate purchase

Doing a see-now, buy-now runway show has not gone so well for a lot of brands. Companies that have longstanding wholesale relationships with very traditional retailers have an understandably difficult time getting everyone on thee same page about what and when should be shown, ordered and stocked, which usually means “see-now, buy-now” ends up being a tiny portion of a larger brand’s output—a limited capsule collection of products available immediately to entice shoppers to pay attention to a runway show. A young, upstart brand like Mansur Gavriel, though, has the opportunity to do something more drastic, and so far the brand is doing a better job of understanding the advantages of in-season shows than most of its contemporaries.

Although we’re in New York Fashion Week Fall 2018, technically, Mansur Gavriel’s weekend runway show featured the brand’s Spring 2018 bags, shoes and clothing, which included both new bag shapes and colors, including a baby blue. The most notable of the new shapes are a new, roomy east-west tote called the Folded Bag, as well as a slim shoulder bag on a short strap, called the Small Hobo. A selection of the line is available immediately at Net-a-Porter, with a larger offering on Mansur Gavriel’s website. Check out the bags from the runway show below.
