BCBG Max Azria Spring 2013: Harness Perfection

Yesterday, I spent my birthday attending the first official day of New York Fashion week and attended some of my favorite shows of the NYFW lineup. One of the shows was BCBG which is held in the massive stage tent and with every seat filled and people standing shoulder to shoulder in the back of the room, it was packed to the gills. I sat front row with other elite bloggers like my friends BryanBoy, Rumi Neely, Man Repeller, Blair of Atlantic Pacfic, and Kelly from The Glamourai, while across from us I couldn’t take my eyes off gold-medalist Sanya Richards Ross (who I went to high school with, believe it or not – same graduating class and everything). After the photographers stopped going crazy with their cameras for the celebs in the front row, the lights went down and husband-and-wife team Max and Lubov Azria sent their BCBG Spring Summer 2013 Runway Collection out.

What followed was an interesting collection, with a lack of color and a heavy focus on harnesses. It’s funny, no matter what any high-powered editor says, fashion choices come down to the person and this is what makes me love fashion – it is individual and what some don’t like others love.

I LOVED the collection; the harnesses were added in a tasteful way that gave a bit of flare to the outfits without looking overly fetishistic. Just when a top would show up with harness detail, the bottom offered a more refined touch with a longer hemline and subdued tailoring. If you don’t like the harness look, this collection is not for you – the focus of the lineup is all about harness touches, for both day and night wear. Give it a chance, though; the harnesses are paired with ethereal dresses and allow parts of the garments to flow while also keeping a linear touch.

Of course, let me talk about the bags. The accessories were entirely simple and straightforward, with large oversized clutches and sleek handbags in solid colors which will offer a clean palette and work well with the clothing. I’ve been liking what BCBG is designing for its accessories collection; it seems to be coming a long way, and these bags may have been simple, but they did not lack a pleasing aesthetic. I left this show deciding I am pro-harness and pro-BCBG, so come Spring 2013 I will be adding quite a few BCBG Max Azria pieces to my wardrobe.
